Anyway bottom line is, if you are fine with slightly bulkier cam, with advantage of longer zoom, get the FZ28

If you prefer a more compact camera, with shorter zoom, get the LX3

Both of them are great cams :D

I also feel that. But its a bulky camera as compared with a compact. Jus afraid i wont wan to bring it out because its bulky. ( I have a 5mth old son so its quite lots of barang barang to bring along.. =P)

I do prefer the FZ18 and FZ28. And I almost forgot abt the video zoom function. Might seriously consider getting maybe one. DSLRs are out for me. I dislike bulk and prefer without the hassle of changing lens and stuff like that...

Meanwhile, keep u guys updated.... and thanks alot for all your advice!

Now I need to have a meeting with my Minister of Home Affairs... I believe I might be in for a nagging as I've overspent by a mile for these few months...

Let me just say that FZ28 is definitely not bulky. =) It may not fit your pocket, but as long as you have a bag, you'll definitely bring it... Do look into an FZ50 as well. =)

In fact those here who transfered to DSLR will tell you FZ28 feels feather-like, like a toy =X

In my opinion, LX3's true advantage is the hot-shoe mount :) But I don't know which flashes out there are compatible with it.

Hope you get one soon :)

Tomorrow outing? i think i cannot make it, because have something to busy.
Meet you both next time.. :)

Hi Ryosuke, just wondering does your Minister of Home Affairs have a dual portfolio like mine, mine is also Minister of War !!! :bsmilie:

I think whatever camera you get you will not go to far wrong with Lumix, I have an FZ 28 and love it. Good luck with your Minister, mine is still overseas, over there in Singapore conducting a trade mission of her own.

I have not actually held an FZ18/28 yet.

It may not be bulky but as compared to my PnS Casio which I put into my pocket and bring it along to outside, it is definately much larger.

Frankly speaking, I dunno if my wife would like that camera as we should be sharing. For her she will be using auto all the while as per normal while I'm the one who's going to explore and play around with the settings.

Minister of War sounds kinda fierce!! Lol...

Right now is to convince her that the camera is much better then my current camera. She's been complaining that pictures are not good enough because she doesn't want to use flash on our son as he is still very young. But when i use flash, the pictures does turn out fine and good.

I also read that FZ18/28 arent very good at low light, heck, from what I know, unless its a DSLR, all prosumers and pns are not much different.

So to convince her to allow me to get a brand new FZ28 is very tough while a 2nd hand FZ18 is still negotiable. The LX3 can cost more then a new FZ28 but because it will give her better photos and its smaller might tilt the balance over to its side.

Thanks for the compliment ombre.

If you will look into my picasa gallery, I have taken some bokeh shots. It was a surprise to me actually, I was just trying out the manual focus.

LX3 vs FZ28, it's a tough call actually. I also leaned on getting the LX3 as it seems to be more popular and can take better night shots i suppose. But I felt that FZ28 is much better for me overall, as this is my first and only digicam. These are the advantages of FZ28 that I can think of:
1. Huge Zoom. You can actually be a paparazzi on this. You can take a picture of your neighbor on the next block. Great also for taking pictures of animals.
2. You can use the huge zoom on videos. Great when taking videos on concert, etc.
3. EVF will come in handy when taking pictures on a bright sunny day.

But i still like to have the LZ3 in the future. Maybe next year.. Perhaps there's already an LX4 by then.

Skyguy, LX3 uses the same sensor as FZ28, technically speaking their noise levels should be exactly the same right? :dunno:

i dunno... maybe it could have some post process by the camera itself, (eg. like vivid mode which fz28 dun have)... tat could have reduce the noise somehow...

I think the reason why LX3 is popular is because a sharp 24mm wide angle lens at F2 is very very expensive on a DSLR. Somewhere in the thousands range.

Anyway do not be deceived by many of the night shots you see done by the LX3 forum, I bet you many were on tripod. =X

even DSLR need tripod to do decent night shots :P

Yea, but I feel that many people mis-conceive that getting an LX3 allows you to do el-cheato night shots by simply pointing and shooting. Quite wrong.

Yup, its definitely a wrong misconception.

Did a crop of one of my pics :P

Share some of mine: Just a few as I'm a little tired.
Flash fired on all 3 shots =) Melvan and I went on a rather bashful flash candid expedition today.

Thanks to skyguy for the cropping tip.

This is not the best shot of this scene, but just chosed to upload this first until I can decide what is best. Haha playing with flashes, there are 2. One is from my camera, and there is a wireless flash infront of both of us on the floor. Originally, I wanted to flash melvan's face but I kinda missed. =(

fountains behind are lit by partially obstructed sunlight for the cool effect. =)

Morning guys,

Everytime I see the pictures you guys post, I admire the quality.

Right now, I still am considering. Its coming to CNY so time is rather short. Most probably if I'm getting will be after CNY as I have lots of stuff to do right now.

Just 1 question, is there video zoom for FZ18 too?

No video zoom for FZ18 unfortunately. =(

Just get the FZ28, its better than the FZ18. :D

Ok when you mean by no video zoom, does it mean that while recording, I cannot zoom but I can zoom 1st then record?

Or totally cannot zoom at all?

This might make me consider the FZ28 instead. Anybody has any idea roughly how much it cost then?
