Thread for Lumix FZ18 and FZ28 Series

Just finished reading the Review of 'Super-Zoom' camera group test over at dpreview.

It seems the FZ28 is rated as Highly Recommended. And its an improvement over the FZ18.

So most probably I will be getting the FZ28 prior to approval from my Ministry of Home Affairs... Must bring her down and play around with the camera, convince her... Hehehe...

Ok when you mean by no video zoom, does it mean that while recording, I cannot zoom but I can zoom 1st then record?

Or totally cannot zoom at all?

This might make me consider the FZ28 instead. Anybody has any idea roughly how much it cost then?

FZ28, you can zoom-in/out while recording video.

yes, you are right... the price of FZ28 at simlim based on the highest price is about $649 with 8gb and case

yoz ombre and navlem, did u use "soft" focal on any of the pic or photoshop it???
coz some of the pic seem to have some soft filter effect

I heard at Cathy photo, you can actually play with the camera? Or anywhere else you guys can recommend? Best if me and my wife can actually play around with the actual camera.

actually every camera shop will let u play around the camera (inside their shop)... if u stay in the north, i will suggest u MS colour(AMK), no point going so far as its about the same as sim lim...

i got a feeling tat if ur wife try both LX3 and FZ28, she might choose LX3 instead, its like girls usually like things slim and trendy

2 Cameras that you might want to consider if you choose the slim way. Ricoh DP1 or Sigma (ugh forgot the name).

In anycase, check for their latest models, they've just released a new camera with larger than typical point and shoot sensors. This equates to noise performance and image quality resolving power. I'm not sure about the price nor personally reviewed the cameras. But in this field, size does matter =) So the quality should naturally accompany the size. They should be slim cameras if I'm not mistaken.

Melvan definitely did, his lens isn't that sharp anyway =)

For me, I did very slightly... 25% gaussian overlay shouldn't be able to tell. But then, my lens seems to be getting very soft.. (ever since I decided to sell it? Psychological effect?)

For the girl in white, yea the soft effect is there on purpose... give it an 'angelic' touch.

Dont know why, but I feel that when flash is used, the lens is softer.. maybe because we closed our aperture beyond the sweet spot.

Melvan even posted on the candid/portrait forum! Haha, quite brave ar, asking for critiques only.

That girl's eyes has a very unique output of eye color. Sort of rainbow color, consistent in all the pictures. Looks exactly like my perfume bottle! (Estee Lauder's Beyond Paradise), go google. =X

Posting something out of my usual repetoire... a street style candid. Obviously photographing smoking men isn't my favorite, can see I didn't edit or even sign on the picture =X But I thought the composition/feel wasn't too bad =)

Brandon uses a different style from the 'trashcan folder', usually all these shots go into the recycle bin straight, even though I snap them, I don't like posting them. =(

Here is my take last week. While waiting for my niece, saw this uncle managing a small garden. So I took out my FZ18 and snap2. H e was smiling when he saw me taking pics of his flower.

I'm not an expert in Street Photography. But it seems pic 1 and 2 caught me coz it has like some characters on it. as for the rest, I'm not that fond of. The back of the lady doesnt give any characteristic of what she is doing. The man with the bicycle is stopped. Unless if you could do some panning shot on him then its good. the last one...I dunno how to explain.

Actually, the last bicycle and lady were both test shots, they happen to be nearest to us when we were trying to expose our flash properly in broad daylight... especially the lady haha. Quite comical, she just walked past and Melvan and I burst 2 full blasts of flash at her. and Viola, expose correctly too.

Yup, i didnt like when the pic was too sharp, becuase the skin looks weird when sharp, so i made it softer, but for one pic, it was already soft due to wrong focusing, thats why its soft.

Actually I showed my wife the brochure for both cameras, she would prefer the LX3. But she wanted the FZ28 because she thought the zoom is via lens adjustment like DSLRs... and she mentioned those DSLRs have lots of buttons for controls.

Most prob will settle for the FZ28. Now its coming to CNY, got stuff to do and pineapple tarts to bake... lol:bsmilie:
