Congrat! Hmm didn't check my serial number not sure if mine fall into the serial number range. I shall check tonight

I think you don't need to be too concerned about the serial number range as the battery draining seems to only occur with the 6D and not with nikon bodies

Hi guys, just got my lens too. Do you mail back the warranty card as mine is unfilled? Also while the focus is spot on, pictures appears soft. I've tried shooting in standard and faithful. Standard looks slightly better.

i did not mail. my warranty card is filled with date and serial no.

Hi guys, is it normal for this lens to appear soft when set to faithful? Please take a look at the photos below for an example of my test shot. All shots are taken on a tripod and the point of focus is at the eye of the figurine. All shots are in jpeg and no pp was done except for slightly increasing the exposure.

Settings are as follow:

F-Stop: 2.8
Exposure Time: 1/6
ISO: 100
Focal Length: 70mm
Metering: Pattern
No Flash

The top photo had it's picture style set to Faithful while the bottom one had it set to Standard (which had it's sharpness set to 4). Even not on 100% crop, I could see the slight difference in sharpness here. This applies to the raw files too.

The photos below are cropped at 100% where the focus is set at the eye.

Any attempt to perform micro AF adjustment only makes it worst. I find that the focusing is spot on but the photos appears soft. Do you think i have a bad copy here that needs to be send for a fix or this is just "normal"? TIA for any advices given. :)

Is it me or do I find the figurine's pants very sharp while the rest of it is soft ... Is that considered focussing issue ?

check to see if your AF points are "expanded" with hidden assist points. Seems like the focus was on the material on the figure's arm for the first pic, while the 2nd "standard" pic had the focus on the eye/hair.

Could be the hidden AF assist points at work if MFA doesn't work consistently.

pants will definitely look sharper because it is a glossy surface shows more contrast and perceived sharpness, while the body is matt and will seem less sharp. For the first pic the pants are sharper also because AF focus seems to be a little to the front

I forgot to mention that I have also used live view with 10x magnification and after the af had locked on the eye, I tried to manually adjust the focus slightly on purpose and those very slight adjustments will render the photos totally oof.

10x live view magnification is used for manuals focus isn't it? I think this subject is not a good one for AF testing though. The eyes are such a small part of the frame. Any other tests with straight lines and more clear cut subjects? Test charts etc

Later tonight I will post again results from test chart and maybe lenscal. By the way at 45 degrees angle, how far should I be from the test chart? Thanks! :)

my AF seems to go 1cm off on where i focused. :(
