Tamron's new 24-70mm f2.8 VC

hi all

just a feedback after 2 days of testing ( day n night ) with the respective lens ( Sigma 85mm F1.4 n Tamron 70-300mm VC), my battery remains good, ie 99 or 98%.
ie i put in a freshly charged battery and put the lens and took a few shots / zoom in / focus, etc ..and left it to "sleep" , ie SWITCH OFF...
key point to state, i DID switch off the GPS n Wifi setting when i "OFF" the camera...with the lens attached

so i think it is the "third party lemon battery" - i kena ... lan lan ... just throw ... if i need a spare...may buy back a ORIGINAL CANON battery ...

what is this 3rd party battery you are using for 6D?

is it this?

Hi 1600 including a Hoya filter. Capture at funan.

Hihi, could you kindly confirm if it was sold to you at 1600 nett? I purposely dropped by capture upon seeing your post. The seller said it was not inclusive of gst... so unfortunate otherwise I would have bought it on the spot... lol...

Mine was all in. I checked the receipt. 1640 to be exact. Sry forgot about the 40 bucks, but that's 2.5%. Apologies again for rounding down.

I did bargain a short while...

FYI: this was shot in freezing -17deg C weather in Beijing...handheld. Given the circumstances, this would not have been possible without a tripod, so the VC saved me.
The two other photographers there were armed with Hasselblad HD4, Nikon D4 and tripods...Overall I consider this one of the better shots I got.

Suitable for portraits too, although I felt the focusing was really a bit slow.

I am also interested in the Tamron's new 24-70mm f2.8 VC USD but is a little concerned about the slow autofocus comments. Noted that a firmware update may be the solution. But I wonder whether I can get a firmware update free if I get a unit from HK or from an online store.

The "slow" comment is only in relation to the fastest Canon USM lenses on a Canon body, perhaps not a fair test.
It is sufficiently fast to capture action, just that if your subject is constantly moving, it could be a little harder.

Nobody else shooting with this lens? I thought a lot of you bought it?

Me too. My favorite lens. Haven't taken it off since the first day.

All the photos taken since "Take 4" on my Flickr account were taken using the Tamron.

Some of my fav photos using the Tamron that show its sharpness and great colour :

I purchased a grey set yesterday from a online store for $1,159 with 3 years shop warranty, today went to the website and the price had been adjusted to $1,269. I am taking the risk for getting a bad copy and not getting a good service from the online store for around $400 cheaper. Hope it’s worth the risk.

QC depends on luck. Sold mine after 1 week due to AF issues and back-focusing on my 5DIII. The buyer didn't mind as sold to him at a huge discount for a local set. He got it sorted with the local service centre later and a happy chap now.

I am back to my nice 24-105L, which is very close in sharpness for most focal length (I have a really sharp version of it!) and yet with IS as well. AF is more stable than Tamron.

Ya, hoping i have the luck to get a good copy. In fact I am ‘downgrading’ from my Nikon 24-70mm as it was in my dry cabinet most of the time since I have my Mirrorless camera.
I still use DSLR occasionally so it would make more sense for me to replace it with cheaper alternative. Hopefully the downgrade will not compromise much in term of performance.

Got the Tamron 24-70 from Cathy Photo yesterday. Love it.

But would like to check with fellow brothers here, inside the Lens box, there's this Silkpix Developer Studio 4.0 for Tamron.
So who tried that?

I'm wondering, since mostly we'll be using the Camera's software instead.

Anyone with crop sensor using this lens? How's the performance?

I use this with both my 6D and 7D... Usual things.. It uses the centre sweet spot, so no issues with performance.. VC is mighty useful...

Only issue is that 24-70 on 1.6x crop works to 38.4 - 112mm.. Which is pretty telephoto... I find myself reverting more often to the 17-55mm for the 7D, and keeping my "Tammy" on the FF 6D instead...

Me. Pairing the Tammy 24-70 VC with my 650D. works beautifully. Sharp photos. Great Colours. I haven't encountered any CA, distortion, vignetting. check out my flickr account below. All the latest photos are taken with the Tammy.

Btw, from reading the MTF charts, the Tammy has identical image quality to the canon 24-70 mkII when used on a crop frame. So I feel that it is a great lens for a crop frame.

Cheers.
