is your lens soft at 24mm or 70mm? sorry i cant help as I don't own this lens... but my impression when trying at a camera shop was that it is sharp at 24mm and not that sharp at 70mm
Mine is soft at both length, 24 and 70. I tried +- 1 micro af and it just makes things worst.![]()
Which camera body are you using?
Pls post a sample "soft" pic.

Did u use tripod for those test shot?

Good question...and when you use the tripod, pls switch off the VC.
Normally lenses don't perform the best when at largest and smallest aperture. Also any filter on the lens? Use only the center auto-focus point for those shots?
Sorry can't comment much on the sharpness as not really pixel peek.
At speed of 1/8 handheld even with VC, you may still have some some camera shake.
And even on the tripod, may still have some shake. Worst if the tripod are not the very stable type. That why some will use ways to reduce the chances of those shake. E.g use remote, set timer, use mirror up etc.
Well i have given up. Did a lot of testing with and without tripod. With and without vc and it just yields the same result. Just my luck. Think i will bring it back to Tamron service center and see if i could get a new copy instead.![]()
Yes the 3rd shot at 24mm is on a tripod with vc off. The first two are handheld with vc on. So do you think I could have a bad copy here?
It looks like you do have a soft copy.
Mine is sharp from 2.8 and down to 1/x sec.
Whether the FL is 24mm or 70mm, its still sharp.
Only issues with this lens are:
>It vignets at f2.8,
>It distorts at 24mm
otherwise I love mine to bits because of the price and the VC.
Only other qualm I have is that in low light, the focus acquisition isn't very fast.
