Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical Field Test

I use the Tammy 18-270 on my Nikon D90. I love it when it is working. But more and more I am getting a camera lock-up (a "F--" message on the LCD) when I have shot more than a few shots. Anyone has similar issue? What should I do?

Jus got mine. My new AIO lens.
I am pretty confident of the IQ and the technology in VC.
Am using on a canon 500d. I Will be taking some time soon to find the best use of these lens and sweet spot.
Any bro care to share their preference in best spot for this lens.
:)

Hi! How much u bought yrs? When extend to 270mm, image still sharp? I thinking of buying for my D5000. Appreciate yr reply

anyone has compared this to the nikon 70-300mm VR?

currently using tamron 17-50 and looking to buy a superzoom and caught in between the Nikon 70-300mm VR and Tamron 18-270mm...

likes about the tamron is the 15X zoom, but Nikon is F5.6 at 300mm...

I will highly recommend nikkon 70-300mm instead of tamron 18-270mm. Reason is simple, 18-270 is a great walk about lens, but above 200mm it doesn't perform as well as nikkon. You wanted tele lens so I would think 70-300 is better for you, furthermore you already own a great lens like tamron 17-50.

The Tammy has max aperture of F6 at 200mm, and F6.3 at 270mm. This is 1 full stop over the Nikon's F5.6 at 300mm.

IQ is in favor of Nikon at the 70-200mm range. The Tammy recovers some IQ at it's longest end, IMO.

Hi Wolvie,

On tripod: Not tried yet

On Handheld: Basically my feel is at 270mm, quality is acceptable, colors are good. Controlling the fstop will be a requirement to get the best at 270mm depending on what u wanna get. As mentioned, I feel the VC is very capable.

Will be going japan end of the month. Therefore will have a better field test with this lens. It kinda makes you feel ready on such a trip. Therefore the rest is up to me already... :p

Bought this lens from MScolor last week and at home discovered got some white dust spot inside after some inspection under good lightings... went back to exchange and discovered that all the stock there got small small dots of dust or bubbles in it.

HAIZ... Now waiting for new stock to arrive this week. Lucky mscolor staffs are very friendly and willing to do an exchange. :)

The dust spots don't seems to appear in the photos but it is very irritating to see a dot of white thing near the center of the lens.:(

Anybody got this problem with this tamron lens too?

Hi! all. Hows the Autofocus on this lens? fast or slow? how does it perform in low light? are images noisy?

Regarding the F-error, has anyone successfully got it repaired by Tamron?

Hi! all. Hows the Autofocus on this lens? fast or slow? how does it perform in low light? are images noisy?

I feel the AF of the lens is capable. During night shooting, I did not need to fuss about the hunting. There were certain instances that the lens was hunting around but i did a quick fix with focusing on another prominent object at the same focal length, re-focus on your intended subject, and it turns ok.
My comparison with another shutterbug using a K-x with kit was having a similar problem. Thus I really could not determine which situation is fast and which is slow for AF in low light.
Than Of course, in the day, no issues at all. I shoot the bullet train with little problems.
About the noise, I assume the capabilities is more camera than lens. I was even shooting at ISO1600.. Pic turns out ok.
What I actually like most is the colors. The lens has churn out accurate and brillant colors in my opinion.

Hello all,
noob question here. Originally bought this lens to pair with a canon 500D (1.6 FOV). However, at time of purchase, I specifically told the salesmen I might upgrade toa Full Frame canon body soon. Tocay when I went back to the shop, they said this lens is not meant for FF What the...? They did mount it up to let me check and yes, wide open, the sides do show barrel distortion. Any bros have any experience using this with FF and care to comment? Is the Sigma 18-250 meant for FF?
Appreciate all advice n comments. Thanks

all the superzoom that start at 18mm are designed for a Crop sensor camera

Just got mine today. Will use on a Canon 550d. Very excited to try it out tomorrow!

Am considering this lens ag Canon EF-S 18-200 mm IS.

Hv read thru various reviews etc. Has anyone tried both the canon and the tamron?

Major gripe of the tamron is the AF, especially at the longer range and in poor lite condition.

But I reckon if i use the longer range primarily during day time, it shld not be a major issue?

comments?
