Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical Field Test

i'm considering to off load my Canon 55-250mm for a vacation lens. Been reading up alot on Canon 18-200, Sigma 18-250 and Tamron 18-270. I'm still rather new in DSLR fyi. I have since filtered Sigma, and deciding on Canon or Tamron. I'm edging over for Tamron for its extra 70mm, but read about the slow AF and bad low light shoot capability.

Does anyone have Tamron handheld low light/indoor shots? would be good if the shots are taken between 150-200mm with slow moving subjects. Anyone knows how it performs as compared to Canon 18-200 at these range, low light/indoor?

Also, on the slow AF, how bad can it get as compared to Canon 18-200?

why not go to the shops and try out the AF speed on both the lenses side by side?
you can also do your test on the indoor low light performance

or go rent and play with it for a day before spending your hard earned cash

This lens VC really works especially when u zoom to 270... before u press the shutter button u can see ur picture shake so badly. but when u press the shutter, the image become still. really like the VC. Will try this at bird park this Saturday.

I agree with the above information. Sort of like the Zoom lens holding on its breathe. :)

Ya, But have anyone tried with video?
Does the VC works in Video Mode? I know the vc works when the half shutter is press but my d90 video starts by pressing the OK button.

Should try it out later. haha. Own a d90 but nvr actually use video...

I was quite interested to know the answer too of whether VC really works with video on D90 and borrowed the lens from my friend. It was AWESOME!!! true as it is of what some bros say in the forum, everything freezes when u switch on VC at 270mm!

Video at 270mm was piece of cake! First time I see videos taken from my D90 and I dun get seasick (if u know what I mean....:bsmilie:) coz my hands shake quite a lot.
 for the lens....

Here is a shot of a hockey player that I took in an indoor arena with the Tamron 18-270. Shooting in hockey arenas is rather difficult. The subject is rather fast and the lighting very difficult (low), but I managed to get a decent shot with a just little blurring.

Here is a night shot with the Tamron 18-270 of the Fullerton Hotel in Singapore. This is hand held (no tripod) and VC on.

Of course, these shots are not the sharpest and I would have gotten better results with a tripod.

In my opinion, I am very satisfied with the performance of the Tamron 18-270 as a vacation lens. I would not use it for critical shots but for a "one-lens" solution while away on a trip, it performs quite well.

Can this lens be optimally used on Nikon D5000 even though this camera does not have in-camera motor to drive AF?

And does anyone know what is the latest price on the street now?

Thanks in advance!:D
