Tamron AF 18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC LD Aspherical Field Test

Ts, do you have any shots that are taken during the night, or lets say low lightning. Probably perhaps at 1/15th shutter. And does the AF hunt slowly during night?

Borrowed this lens from a friend previously to test its performance. Love the VC and zoom range. As for the AF, well... i think can 'learn' how to AF properly on this lens by:-

1) half press until the lens AFs to somewhere near focus and release finger
2) half press again to lock AF

it works better then half pressing the shutter release all the way and let the lens hunt till dunno when. I think I heard of this technique somewhere before.

Anyway, some test shots which I dug up.... still saving to buy this lens... :)

This one is taken indoor, shoulder held at 270mm, 1/13secs, ISO3200.

This one taken outdoor, no tripod but rested on something if I remember correctly, 240mm, 1/30secs, ISO1000.

I have done plenty night shots with this lens but have not encountered any hunting problem. Great zooooom, like it very much.

Can check out some of these shots using the Tamrom 18-270 VC I took at the YOG opening. A lot of shots are at ISO1600. Unfortunately my photo's EXIF all stripped out. If you are keen I can supply the setup later on.

Then lens doesn't hunt for about 95% of the time. I'm using center AF, so that might be why I don't encounter a lot of probs. I'm probably also used to focusing at a contrasty edge first then re-composing before takin the shot.

actually if the scene does not have enough contrast to lock on, the camera AF system will start to hunt
this is regardless of the lens on the camera

fast lenses let more light in so it is easier for the Camera AF system to detect contrast.

Some asked me to fix this lens with an intermittent problem on zoom getting stuck.
The fix:There's no need to open up, just tighten the screw underneath the rubber of the zoom ring. ;)

Borrowed this lens from a friend and used it during a concert in Taipei. Very impressed by the quality(given that it is not a "fast" lens). I was at the last few rows of the PB zone so you can imagine I have to zoom in full to 270mm all the time. I think this lens is really not bad!!! Of cos I think D90 also plays an important part.... Nevertheless it is still a highly recommended all-purpose lens...

Anyhow, I bought this lens off Amazon with Tamron rebates from US last week... My friend tested and will be bringing it back for me in oct .. Cost me S$690 only.. hehehe....

This one taken using ISO3200 1/320secs.

Hi There, can anyone share the lastest pricing for this lens?

Anyone recently check up on this lens? Please do share the pricing, thanks.

gotten this lens last evening from a fellow CS mate for my overseas trip later.... played around with it this morning... overall the IQ is ok comparable to the 18-200 I had some time back... I think I will enjoy using it :)... sharing some pics I shot earlier on with this lens... mostly but 1 shot wide open.... *only resizing done and some minor curves adjustment*

Seems like a nice sharp lens that can take some decent IQ photos ;)
