the bokeh of 17-50mm or 28-75mm f/2.8 cannot be compared to bokeh of 50mm f/1.7, even wehn shoot at f/2, if you really like good bokeh for portrait shoot and good pricing, this is the lens to go, it's way cheaper than 17-50mm or 28-75mm f/2.8. By using prime lens, learn to zoom with your feet  But for sure for fast pacing indoor event shoots, 17-50mm is the lens to go.
Another choice for cheap low light wide angle shoot is Sigma 28mm f/1.8, the bokeh is not too good, but still better than the other 2.
I don't foresee 2nd hand fullframe Sony DSLR price will go below S$2000 in 2 year times
yup....i think the bokeh of the 2 lens i am considering wun be exceptional but at the time being, i think i will use my cam for more indoor event shoots than portrait shots. so i guess the 17-50mm will be good buy and to replace my kit lens....
mmm.....comparing the sigma 28mm f/1.8 with the km 50mm f/1.7 with the sony 50mm f/1.4, how will u rank the bokeh? any idea how much the sigma cost? (i passed up 2 offers for the km 50mm f/1.7 due to lack of funds...:cry

haha.....that's why i dun consider the full-frame when buying the lens now... :embrass:
