Swede Stockholm

29. Offering

Old church buildings are scattered across Stockholm. Like many other cathedrals found all over Europe, their interior is intricately designed and laced with ornate stained glass designs. This photo is taken in Storkyrkan (The Great Church) in Gamla Stan.

30. Royal Guard

This is a member of the Royal Guard stationed outside the Stockholm Royal Palace. The guards are actually part of the Swedish armed forces. You can witness the change of guards that takes place daily.

Did he lean against that vertical structure ? You caught him there :)

Good observation. Don't think they are allowed to lean against the guard post. I suppose he was leaning backwards and looking upwards instead, which presented a nice profile pose. Thanks for dropping in and commenting :)

33. Lemurs

Will be sharing some photos of animals in the upcoming posts. Visited Skansen, an open air museum and zoo in Djurgården, a place I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Stockholm. The museum ground is huge, with plenty to see and photograph. They moved many historical farm buildings from all over Sweden and re-erected them here in Skansen. Allocate at least half a day or more to cover it sufficiently.

These adorable and comical lemurs are found in an enclosure in the zoo (separate entrance fee required). While you can view them outside the enclosure for free, an admission fee will allow you into the enclosure. These creatures are tame and will not come near you unless you are carrying food in your hands! I have a photo of school children attempting to feed them here.

34. Lemurs II

I find the way the hang their tail over the body somewhat comical.

36. Squirrel

Continuing with the theme of animals, we all know how difficult it is to take photos of this quick moving animal. In Skansen, it is made so much easier as they are in a large glass enclosure. So I take no credit at all for these shots. Just want to share them with you all :)

Nice! I'm going to Oslo next week and tempted to bring my gear after seeing your pics! But probably not... unlike you, it's a working trip for me! And Oslo is nowhere as nice...

What lenses did you bring over for these shots, anyway?

Have never been to Oslo, so I can't provide a comparison :), but it's going to be real cold.

As to what lenses, I try to travel as light as possible. Brought my 17-40mm and 70-200mm with me. Not exactly the lightest of lenses, but they give me sufficient coverage and satisfactory image quality. Didn't even bring my camera bag. With one lens mounted on my camera and slung around my shoulder and the other in my haversack, I moved around. Found it quite troublesome when I need to change lens.

Thanks for dropping in and commenting, and enjoy your trip to Oslo.

40. Relics

Some old objects found displayed outside the historical building found in Skansen. I like how the light falls on them.

B&W treatment of the same objects in 39, albeit a different composition.

42. Logs

A B&W close-up look of logs used to build a historical house in Skansen. Interplay of the wood texture and shadows falling on it.

43. Benches

These benches are found in the foklets hus, or the people's house in Skansen, built in 1908.

44. Ekshärad Farmhouse

The Ekshärad Farmhouse comes from the parish of Ekshärad in Värmland. This large farmhouse was built in the 1820s by the crown´s district legal officer Jan Olof Pallin and it served as the local court as well as the enlistment office of the Värmland Regiment.
