Suggest: LIST of places where film devp, scanning and printing is offered

After getting some of my prized shots ruined because of sloppy developing of BW by these photolabs, i was very disappointed. i went on to develop my own at home and i must say the QC is much better and I get to play around with different developers.

Okay I've located marine hawaii photo. It's found at Blk 58 Marine Terrace #01-51

From what the uncle at the shop told me, they do C-41 processing only, which is $4 per roll. Scanning is an additional $12, but I didn't ask for the resolution. Processing is done in-house and with C-41 you can get your film back on the same day.

Thanks unseenshadows. Please see post #5 in this thread. Apparently someone had a fairly bad experience at Marine Hawaii.

Hi guys, sorry to intrude in here. I am thinking of starting a developing and scanning all-in-one service.

Will be initially be sending the films to PhotoHub @ Commonwealth for developing and conversion to digital aka scanning in-house. Will also be providing collection and delivery service.

Would anyone be interested???

Any suggested price range??

Could the experienced shooter please advice.

IMO most of us would go to the shops ourselves given the additional cost of using such a service plus the already high cost of processing and scanning. Especially since shops like ruby and konota are rather central.

Are you thinking of offering developing/scanning services yourself later on, or purely agent/collection-delivery services?

Hmm ... I only re-started shooting film recently, so perhaps the more experienced film shooters could chime in.

you can rent the imacon scanner (16bit) and DIY from Shriro

developing bw yourself is much cheaper in the long run, strongly suggested.

Looking to develop B&W HP5, went to Ruby a few days ago, $6 a roll like what a few users said (takes 3 working days, so they outsource) and scanning takes 5 working days, contact sheet also provided along with CD. Price for scanning to CD alone is $12. Total $18.

Decided not to scan in the end. Anyone can recommend a good place to process B&W 35mm? Also, how long does fotohub take to process 35mm B&W?

Thanks guys, will update if I try out any others.

If you want to take B&W photos with a budget, try the C-41 B&W films like the Ilford XP2 and the Kodak 400CN.

Results turn out quite well for Ilford XP2, Kodak 400CN gives a grayscale kind of feel (my view). ;)

I am most interested in places that do medium format slide processing. Seems like photohub is the place to go.

For BW,

I relise that home development is the cheapest. Besides it is relatively easy to do and you have full control of the process.

Just get a bottle of HC110 as a developer and you are good for many many rolls.

sorry to hijack. i need to scan an old developed photo- a request by my granny.

So i need it to be enlarged to a larger size, which shop offers this? the negative is not available tho.

Velasco,

you could easily scan the photo on a capable flatbed scanner yourself, and then touch-up the file in PS/CS. Alternatively, the old way was to photograph the photo.

Is the photo damaged or faded, curled up, cracked etc?

If it is, then the cost might go up quite a bit as digital restoration work might be necessary.

Hope this helps.

p.s. How big is the photo? I may be able to help you if it's not damaged.

Hello, i might have to take a look at the photo again. I believe it has no damage whatsoever. It is framed intactly. I donot have a scanner or a photo printer at the moment so it cancels any possibility doing it myself. Do you think any shops which does film development render this service? I also don't think i need any photo retouch, just enlargement. The size now is 4R i think.

If it's framed, carefully open the back and take the photo out.

If it's stuck to the glass, do not force it out.

Can you see if the print is a glossy or matt print (look for surface texture on the emulsion side). If it;s glossy, and stuck to the glass with areas of super high glosee, then it's going to be very tricky.

If it's a matt print and also stuck to the glass, it may not be as tricky to remove.

Worst case scenario, scan with the glass, and if that doesn't work, revert to the tried and tested technique of re-photographing the print through the glass.

If you can get the print to me, I'll be glad to scan it for you. No charge. :)

mmm... gd thread..

:thumbsup::thumbsup:

ps! my last 10 rolls is develop in ooverseas :sweatsm:
cant help much

Hi Guys, I'm going back to film to.

Any clue if there are any stores in SG that accept "mail order" style developing of 35mm film (i.e. mail the roll of film to them to develop, print and scan at high-res, then they mail it back to me)?

Reason is that I'm very busy and hardly can find time to travel all around to send and collect my films from the shops.

thank you for your help...

If I'm not wrong, Grace digital does it and so does 35mm at Bukit Timah. You can always call them up and ask :)

You can do it yourself or get someone to help you with it. Pay them a small amount la.

What B&W film is it? Maybe I can find some time =)
