Anyone looking forward to the Radiopopper Jr?

http://www.radiopopper.com/model_jr.php

Those prices are really attractive.

after reading the blog a few times, i realise the radiopopper jr sounds like a normal radio trigger. there was no mention of retaining ttl function like the P1. am i wrong or was there actually no mention that it can retain TTL? :dunno:

i dont own digital camera. one shot one kill. will you be setting up 2 flash on sunday?;p

u are probably the first person i know to do that. i think as long as the rest are fine with it is ok. but group shot timing is tight. u wont have time to set up and take test shots right?

That 'dude' drags his full barrage of studio lights on site even though there are some shots which are a lot less eloborate and more spontaneous.

He shoots with 1DS MkIIs, and owns very high quality medium and large format equipment as well. I've been with him on shoots and he tugs along several suitcases of equipment. Not that equipment is everything, but for someone who knows how to maximise the equipment, it pays to observe what he uses and why.

One layout is usually the culmination of weeks or months of planning and logistics and one of his strengths is getting a whole barrage of assistants and models willing to make his projects a success - with absolutely no charge usually LOLZ! :bsmilie: (Manz, that takes real talent if you ask me - people relations) and the actual shot may take hours and hours of endless adjustments, testing and re-testing and shooting and shooting and shooting and some more never ending adjustments and re-shooting till he gets that one single perfect shot.

I doubt if most, except commercial or top end architectural photographers are willing to go through that much work just to make sure that one final shot is perfect! That, if you ask me, is total dedication and commitment to his craft.

Actually all that goes against the main motto of the Strobist movement if you bother reading up about it. Nothing against mattlock but I do admire his patience and dedication. On another unrelated note, his effort and hardwork would not do justice to him while he is here in SG because of the lack of opportunity available. I am very sure it will not sustain him at all. IIRC, he is moving to New York. I am glad he did because I am sure his hardwork will be much appreciated over there. ;)

The way I look at it is this - what ever it takes to make the shot I want or need, the quickest, with minimal cost, equipment and effort, preferably, because most of us can never afford to have the 'warehouse' of equipment that he has. Some successful full-fledged commercial photographers I know even survive with a lot less!

What I like about the Strobist movement is the very crux of it's existence and philosophy - to empower enthusiasts and hobbyists with skills and abilities with everyday equipment and produce stunning results! Now, the term 'everyday' is subjective, because most hobbyist or even enthusiasts would never own, yet alone by intimately familiar with lighting ratios, off-shoe work and remote triggers!

As humans, we tend to be lazy by nature, or the 'Maggie Mee' society we live in conditions us to be lazy, but that has an upside - innovativeness!

As the old saying goes - there's 101 ways to skin a dead cat.

If it can be done with one speedlight and a reflector and one trigger, it can definitely be done with 4 studio units, an equal amount of triggers, light modifiers and assistants. I'll choose the simpler and cheaper method anytime - IF it gives me the results I need with the speed or efficiency I need.

Bottom line for me?

Whatever it takes, preferably minimally.

One light or a hundred. Some things can be simplified, and some, because of the very technical nature or conditions, requires a lot more work, or (horrors!), equipment.

Hi again,

I totally agree with your rationale and am glad we are on the same page. ;) I am sure there are many ways to peel a potato. Whatever floats your boat they say. Our motto here is simply Less Gear, More Brains, Better Light. We are here with one purpose that is to spread the knowledge (and some love ;p ). If that is your motto, you are always welcomed to join our gathering. Too bad for my sprained wrist, I can't join this very first outing. :(

PS: Flipfreak my man, I broken my wrist trying to escape a puddle of water from being splash on me. No so glamourous ey? Cursed the driver who sped. I am typing with my left hand now and it feels a bit retarded.

Alamak! A broken wrist ... manz, I'm sorry to hear about that Hazmee!

Most folks don't know my background, or why I advocate hard work and dedication, but at the same time, for cost-effectiveness and efficiency, and at the end of the day, how easy can I make it and still get the results (ease). Also, not many or us are blessed to own a warehouse of top-quality equipment or have lots of assistants like way the pro have crews.

What baffles me is that many hobbyists I've seen ... when they start transforming into enthusiasts, and want to take their work to a different level, but can't be bothered to learn about the qualities of light or put into practise what they read.

I am not a master ... no waaaay man, but I have learned to respect light. I have to, if I want to call myself a photographer - it's the very essense of our craft.

I have to add ... I am still learning. ;-)

Re-edit: ... and how truly lazy I am in real life! Hehehehe! Just in case I sounded kinda like ominous or something. It would be great to learn simpler ways to achieve stunning results, preferably with less gear which I neither have or can afford.
