just noticed this thread and joined the flickr group. thanks for setting this up :)

btw, strictly speaking the Canon and Nikon off-camera lighting systems aren't radio triggers - changing 'Radio' to 'Wireless' so that it makes more sense.

i see a few users of skyport. Any comments on your system ?

how much did you pay for them? where did you get them ?

no, i was referring to the title of the list - it used to say "Type of Radio Trigger used" :)

i picked up my skyports (one Universal transmitter/receiver pair, plus one extra receiver) from B&H last year. that combo cost me less than US300 in total before shipping.

the dipswitch on the transmitter can be a bit finicky, but once i get the channel/groups set up, my trigger rate is 100%.

batteries for the receivers are not user-replaceable, and there is no way to tell how much charge is left in the receiver. this may be a major minus; YMMV. charger for the receiver comes with multi-plug adapters that you can swap if you travel frequently. the transmitter uses a coin-type battery (can't remember the number) which is widely available.

gotta be a bit careful how you store the receivers in your bag, though. because the power button protrudes slightly from the surface, it is possible that a bump will turn the things on accidentally, though this can be solved by keeping them in a lightly padded container.

thank you very much. i was about to compare battery used in skyport and PW. :)

i knew battery pack need to be charged regularly even if not in use. rechargable AA battery is a better option for me.

do you have to charge the skyport receiver regularly? i am just a lazy photographer.

any PW user like to share with us the battery used in PW?

Hi CasualSnaper,

The battery for the receiver last about 3 months with a single charge. The transmitter battery last roughly about 6 months with heavy use.

recently, i have been carrying my lightstand and brolly around.
firstly, the brolly is big. it will block some photographers. secondly, it will show up in photos unnecessary. thirdly, the models face become serious. i hope i am not a eye sore for the rest not using brolly. therefore it is better to join like minded strobist outings.

Just saw this thread, gald to know fellow strobists^^ Still building up on addition flashes and accessories, but managed to capture these shots with DIY snoot grid.

hi hazmee,

I went to teban gardens lastnight.
the hawker centre is very bright at night. any good food there?

Will i be able to recharge it whenever i want to use after idle for 3 months or more?

The round flat battery used in my calculator is still working after 10 years. idle for long long time.

The re-charger batt for skyport seem to hold charge for quite long like hazmee have mention. However i will still charge before it my shot. As for the e transmitter battery, i buy one more to keep in the bag.

if the sensor of the slave flash able to "see" the master flash, and within range, it will fire.

The indian mee goreng, rojak and prata is excellent. For malay food, they all taste roughly about the same. Don't know about chinese food though. ;)

You can charge the battery any time you want. But as a rule of the thumb, like what STEV mentioned, it is better to charge it before an important shoot. For battery replacement, have to send it to the repair centre I guess. Not sure where it is.

PW using normal batteries. they come with energiser and usually suppose to last around 1000 times. but so far so good but i always bring spare batts.

u are probably the first person i know to do that. i think as long as the rest are fine with it is ok. but group shot timing is tight. u wont have time to set up and take test shots right?
