Sony NEX announced ...

More poison at your shop!! :D

hahahaha... Hopefully, the 12.5mm C mount lenses can be mounted on it this time....

From the look of it, it's really really promising...

As a professional photog and a beta tester of the Nex-5
how u rate this camera?

Initial impression on this new toy :
1. small but nicely fit into hand
2. IQ is better than Alpha 550 on high ISO test (less noise) and the best mirrorless camera in term of IQ.
3. Odd menu layout (totally different from current Alpha menu)
4. Smart design of control button which is like mobile phone control layout.
5. Tilt LCD Screen is a great one ! very sharp and nice color rendition
6. This camera is highly recommended for everyone whose needs compactness and D-SLR quality !

other points will updated soon ;)

great! ;)

NEX 3 looks much better in design than the NEX 5 for me. But knowing Sony, a NEX 1 (w/o video???), 7 and 9 should be in the pipeline already ;)

Will Sony introduce E mount Zeiss lenses anytime soon??? ;p

very disappointing iso performance from Nex-5... i expecting something better than that

The answer in short is yes.

Flange distance is 18mm, which is shorter than the M4/3's 20mm and diameter from what I see, is also larger. That means there is 2mm more room even for the C mount lenses that were not able to be used on the M4/3 bodies previously.

Once the production copies of the sony NEX rolls out to the market, shouldn't have to wait too long for the M mount adapters to be in the market. That's as far as what my sources have told me....

Going to be an exciting 2nd half of 2010....

Because of the cut back of the flange distance by 2mm, some said that the optical performance suffers. Sony is willing to compromise on this to gain more compactness for their camera bodies.

I like Sony but I think I will not give up my E-P1 just yet, maybe next generation. The lenses seem too big for the body and unbalanced and the sharpness of the lenses seem not too good from the samples. Too bad because one special thing about these cams is that they have the special shooting modes that are in the compacts like Handheld Twilight mode and Sweep panorama. With handheld twilight mode it can get low light shots even full frame SLR cannot do.

have sweep pano on an EVIL camera means there's no need for wide angle lens...

damn..

My POV with all these EVIL cams coming along, unless there are pancake lens in the offering no need to make it so compact, if using on a large zoom it is better to have good grip.

Looks rather ugly in terms of design for me.

I am sure pancake lenses like 28/1.8 etc are upcoming launches for this new e-mount. If not sony will be slapping their own faces.

As many reviews have indicated, its unavoidable that the lenses are bigger than m4/3s since the sensor is bigger. Its a technological limitation as this point in time. Though looks a bit awkward with the zoom lenses, but i hv to applaud sony for the bold and refreshing design that will definitely turn heads when u hv one in ur hands, couple with good built qualty and unique aluminium lens body.

Looks rather ugly in terms of design for me.

To come out with a bold and unconventional design is a risk and double edge sword.

One one hand, those who liked it will say its very bold and unique.
Those who disliked will say its ugly and not practical.

However if its design is typical like g11 or gf1, then people who liked will either say its very pro look and some will say its boring and the designers are sleeping.

So no end to these debates. The sales figures will redeem itself when its launched. These are targeted at mass market, so the profits from these cameras will defintely be better than selling even ff body and lenses which will keep sony alive rather than seeing a boring company go bust.

Have you tried Alpha 550 high ISO performance ?
afaik Alpha 550 is the best Alpha for high ISO performance.

NEX-5 is better on noise management on high ISO compare to Alpha 550.

Gathering the responses so far. The main complains seems to be the perceived awkwardness of the lens size and the slim body.

However , looking at Zuikoku's test shots , the hand Grip portion seems to be beefly enough to have a proper grip . For DSLR users , that should be quite adequate since the left hand normally holds the Lens when taking shots.

Perhaps Zuikoku can comments on the ergonomics ? :D

I like it that Sony made an articulating LCD screen able to tilt 80 degrees and down 45 degrees.
