Sony NEX announced ...

and provide as an outlet whereby finally oly and panny users had a common foe to direct their angst at...instead of each other even though both are consider as under the same 4/3 consortium.

haha . But APS-C compact has been around . Sigma , Ricoh and Samsung have tried it. So far till date , only Sony made it really compact.

But then again , at least Nex sets tongue wagging . More criticisms against it , only aids for the next NEX to be better.

But I think theres an interesting firmware upgrade later that adds some sort of 3D functions . Wonder that that will be. Any guess ?

Let's see what DK has to say about lens support. Anyway there won't be much to choose from if only SSM / SAM lenses are supported.

better than nothing. But it should prompt Sony to come out with more SAM and SSM lenses in future though.

Only sad thing is old Minolta users wont be able to benefit from this.

Yah, and I am one of them. Only my 30mm F2.8 macro is SAM.

Whether people like this new NEX camera or not is very subjective. However it seems a very stylish camera to own and show.

Looking at the high ISO samples and videos, the competition has to be very afraid....especially so when next wave of DSLRs (esp A700 and A900 replacements) from Sony should have leading ISO quality and "useful" and high quality videos that AF...

That's something many of us are eagerly waiting for and NEX has shown us a real insights of what's coming from Sony in coming months...it's really make.believe...

i'm very much interested in this camera as i'm looking have a lightweight dslr for the ease of travel..
was looking from pen to gf1 to kx.. and have been waiting for confirmation from sony.. this seems like a great choice for me.. but..

it seems to be targetting the newbie photography market rather than the pro users and then there's this vid....

check it out, cnet mentioned a couple of cons of this cam.. must wait for other full reviews to come out first..

This range of cameras has been and will be targeted at consumer grade and will never has pro-level specs or features and handling.

At end of day, its the picture/video quality that is most important right? And the next important one will be whether its easy and small enough for u to bring along to take the shots when u needed most.

No point for a great specs or pro-level camera that is so bulky and heavy that stays in dry cab most of time.

what sensor is used in the nex cams? output at high iso looks cleaner compared to previous alphas (if i remem correctly, been awhile since i last had alpha)

im using gf1 and kinda tempted by the clean output at high iso... but cons is inconsistent af (if i read correctly the early reviews) and rather devoid of most manual controls... gonna keep an eye out when this thing is released

Man I really like the NEX. I hope we get some sort of pre-launch event soon.

No, image quality is not the most important. Everything plays a part.

To extend what you said, no point for a great compact camera that takes great pictures if it takes a piss at you every time you try to change the settings.

There is something very wrong with that comparison. I have a GH1 and I know how it performs: Better than the G1, which is not the case here.

As i mentioned, its targeted for consumer level and these group does not change settings often.
