Sony NEX-6 (The "mini NEX-7" about to be announced soon) Thread II

Tested how the nex 6's kit lens star burst. It is very similar to Tokina 11-16.
This photo was set at F16

In camera flash is very useful on the NEX 6. Here is a sample using the built in flash.

Another landscape shot. If shot in raw the image has heavy distortion. Which can be corrected in Lightroom by adding +45 to 60 distortion and checking the constrain crop option.

There are other nifty features in the NEX 6 SCN mode that I have yet to show. Such as anti blur and hand held twilight. I have to say it works as advertised.

What I don't know in NEX 6 is how the HDR works. Sometimes to get a better HDR image add +0.7 to +1.0 EV in exposure compensation to really get the right exposure on highlights and shadows.

The manual lacks further explanation how to fine tune HDR, how the AF works. I observed using flexi spot AF, sometimes AF will lock on the spot. But sometimes it makes a big AF box across the frame. The manual didn't provide the explanation for this. Can someone explain this?

Hi,

I experienced something weird with my Nex 6 over the past 2 days. The camera would refuse to switch on after I power it off. It would not switch on even after I moved it to the Off position and On again. The only way to fix it was to remove the battery and re-insert. It happened twice over the past 2 days. Do any of you guys here experience similar issues?

I experienced something similar. No response when camera went into power save/sleep mode. Pressing shutter button does not wake the camera up as it should. Switching the camera off and back on doesn't work like you said. Thankfully, removing the battery solved the issue.

Hopefully this is only a firmware bug which can be fixed in future firmware updates.

where did you guys buy your sony nex-6? any recommendations for shops?

All the usual recommended shops mentioned repeatedly in multiple threads and across the priceguides section. Open your eyes instead of expecting to be fed answers.

Just received my Gariz half body case & strap. Nice finishing!

guys,

one thing I noticed about the EVF of nex6 is that the sharpness degrades quite fast if your viewing angle is not directly perpendicular.

Meaning if my eye is not right at the center of the viewfinder, but slightly off, the edges becomes fuzzy with some color fringing. Is this normal?

Still not getting used to the EVF.

I guess it's normal, due to the way the screen and the viewfinder optics is designed.

For me the viewfinder is harder to use with the eyepiece cup, so I don't have it attached at all.

The half case helps to protect the rubber grip , and slightly improves the overall grip. At least it does that on the nex7 :cheers:

So many things seem wrong or unusual with the EX-1 handling ... ISO performance of NEX-6 is not so far from EX-1, and I got more successful shots using manual focus lenses (no IS) on the NEX-6 at low shutter speeds, probably due to the shutter curtain design of the Sony.

I prefer the DRO of the Sony, like if I take an image with shadows, I want those shadows to be there as is, not DRO'ed too much like in that video.

The major advantage of the EX1, IMHO, is the lack of an AAF, and its lenses. EX1 is for the patient folks who can take it slow and miss some shots at crunch time, and NEX-6 if there is more time pressure in one's shooting habits.

Thx, waiting to get one now from a fellow cser:)

Has anybody gotten the battery charger? It cost $69 at Sony. Anywhere to find cheaper one?
