Sony A33

Finally handled the A33 last night at JP Sony style.

1) I notice some noise at ISO 1600...
2) When in flash mode,.. there is shutter lag of 1 sec. Maybe my setting is wrong,.. I tried but couldn't get it to shoot right away. It does a few preflashes everytime....

My likes:
1) Amazing AF,.. Face detect in an SLR in default mode, unbelievable...
2) Wide Lens option..

Confusing Choices: Sony A33, Canon 550D, Pentax K-R......

the pre flash is due to one of the 2 reasons:
1) A33 does not have a build in IR meter (all entry level DSLRs dont hv this), thus in low light, it fires off the flash to help it to focus easier.

2) red eye reduction mode, pre flashes are fired to lower the chances of red eye syndrome.

The above 2 are standard functions across all entry level DSLRs. Red eye reduction can be turned off.

There will always be noise at ISO1600... even for the best cameras...

The shutter did not trip and the flash fired pre-flashes for 2 related reasons:
1) The pre-flashes are used to help the camera focus in low light. Higher end cameras have an IR assist lamp for focusing in low light.
2) The camera is set to focus priority. That means the camera will not trip the shutter if focus has not be obtained. On higher end cameras, you can set the camera to fire off even if the focus is off. I'm not sure if the A33 has such a function, but I'm sure someone on this thread can help with this.

Does anyone know where I can buy a Canon adaptor for the A33. I have colleagues who have tons of Canon lenses to lend me and I need this adaptor for the mount. First time DSLR user and beginning to enjoy my A33!!

MS Color just the 8GB ProDuo HX and the cam bag.... if you buying the body plus separate lens they might throw you free UV filter and the normal Sony promo purchase in purchase for the lens..

the freebies like photo frame, tripod, etc only available on last comex?

Got my A33 tdy :) .. i notice when i mount my lens....i have to align my lens at the orange dot den gently "twist it left n right" slightly to make sure it fits completely in the cam mount den can turn clockwise n lock on. Dunno if tis is normal cos I used to own a A200.... just need to align n the lens fit in nicely n den turn clockwise easily.

Nope ! ...fits/feel the same as my A500 ...and Minolta9000 before that.

maybe your A200's mount abit worn out so you're not used to a 'tight' fit ! :bsmilie:

Anyone encountered any "Unable to display" message when viewing pictures? recently browsed through my pictures on the camera and found one.

After I downloaded vids from A55 to computer by simply right click 'moving' it, the files no longer exist in the camera but the camera thinks it's still there and shows "Unable to Play"

...just simply delete it and it doesn't shows anymore.

I think have to use the software provided, Sony's PMB to move files around properly.
