Sony A33

Seems like the A33 and A55 are out of stock at the AMK shops...went down and was told that stocks will take a week or 2 to arrive

wow MSColor raking $$$ on A33 and A55  but kidding aside A33/A55 are  camera

Looks like Sony's got another run-away best seller like their Nex when it was launched in June this year ! ...everywhere out of stocks

And the Nex has captured 50% of the mirrorless market in that short time. Will the SLT achieve the same level of success ? ...with the tough competition from the DSLRs ?
...60d, D3100, D7000, K-r and even the A580 to come ...I think 30% of the market would already be considered a great success. :bsmilie:

I think it will eat alot from Canon XXXD and Nikon DXXXX (not sure about D7000 as it's more like D90 replacement) but surely it will compete with D5000 and current D3000 line up... Oly had opt not to release any of thier E-XXX series so I guess like me some Oly users might go to Sony camp!

Canon and Nikon double digit (DXX and XXD) maybe be affected but they are targeting different users... I find A33/A55 to be more of Oly E-XXX, Canon XXXD and Nikon DXXXX user group....

Do they have the 18-250 bundle? Was specifically looking for that though they don't even have bodies in stock. Bodies will arrive next week but the 18-250 stock will arrive much later in maybe 2-3 weeks.

When i gotten my A33 I've ask for 18-250 instead of the kit lens :)

Initially wanted to wait till sitex for the price drop and extra freebies, but since got a kid bday party next week and japan trip in early nov, decided to just buy it soon.

Just placed an order for the SAL35F18, will get it with the body when the lens arrive next week.

Now thinking if i should grab the pwp for SAL50F18.
Do you think its a waste to buy the 50mm in addition to the 35mm?
i want the 35mm as i find that the shorter focal length is more useable.
but the pwp price for 50mm quite attractive...

the PWP is $169 right?

2nd hand price of 50mm f1.8 is around $150-160. If u get the lens and decided to sell away next time, u will lose around $9-19.

I would take it if im you. Just lose a few bucks, but u got a lens to play around for months.

Anyone out there know the material they use for the body?

I accidentally dropped mine when i forgot to zip my fastpack. What a pain...

SLT will probably capture more of the lower end market due to the size and touted features. Amongst the full time photogs, they will still either stay with established systems from Canon or Nikon and their existing lens collection.

For serious hobbyists who have invested in good glass, also very locked in.

I think Sony's best bet is to strengthen the SLT line up and keep it cheap, and build a full frame SLT together with good glass in the price range of Olympus's High Grade Zuiko series. This will provide a good upgrade path from their extended base of new users.

Thanks man...Its painful to see such a pretty thing get scarred...

Apart from minor scratches, something seems to be wrong.
There's no usual "tidit" sound during autofocus.
Anyone here knows where the sound comes from? Someone told me it should come from the lens but i'm not that sure.
Its not really that big a problem but just feel kinda weird without the autofocus sound...

This combo is excellent!!!

My A55 is always with the 35/1.8 whenever i am at home, taking pictures and videos of my kids has never been so easy and good IQ.

I used to do it with my A700 and A550 with sigma30 but it was quite heavy and no video.

This new partnership is light, small, responsive, fast af and with really nice bokeh and colours to boot.

Btw, at F2, it is already very sharp. I can practically see all the eye lashes of my sons clearly when view at 100%.

actually I was really interested in the A55 and 35mm combo. But it playing with it in sony style, it is too big for me. It seems to be still DSLR size. I really wished sony can do a 35mm f1.8 for the NEX mount.

Better still something like what samsung has done for the NX10 and 30mm pancake. That combo is what I call portable. The A55 + 35mm is still DSLR size. But the NX10 body loses so much to sony A55 in terms of sensor technology and features....

DUH! Of cos the A55 is DSLR sized, cos its a DSLR...

Ok technically its a DSLT, due to the fixed mirror. But its a DSLR class camera, it HAS a mirror.

the NEX, Samsung NX10, Olympus EPs etc are MIRRORLESS cameras.

Lol ! ...nowadays the distinction between DSLR, DSLT, Mirrorless, Super-zoom PnS, EVIL all blurred ! ...ask any none-camera person and you'll get a blank look ! :sweatsm:

DSLR and DSLTs belong to the same class...the mirrored cameras.

I prefer to call NEX / EPs / GH+GFs / NXs as EVILs. It sounds cooler than MILCs :bsmilie:

I don't think the A33 A55 design is optimized. It is so big because sony wanted to use the A-mount. I think you could have implemented the fixed mirror on the NEX-mount, then the design is more optimized.

I still think if you lose the optical viewfinder, the camera has to be REALLY small to compensate for that big minus.

With mirror, whether it flips or not, the flange dist between sensor and lens has to be further away. Mirrorless can hv shorter flange dist, therefore smaller body.

What do you mean by "implemented the fixed mirror on the NEX-mount"?

The NEX is a MIRRORLESS system :bsmilie:

And A33 and A55 are MEANT to be using A-mount lenses, cause its NOT an NEX system.

do you even know what you r talking about? What you said makes no sense at all.

I am sure if the mirror does not have to flip, the flange distance can be drastically reduced.

Why do you think they cannot squeeze in a fixed mirror for E mount?

The flange distance for E mount is 18mm. The sensor height is 15mm. Technically it should be possible to put in a mirror at 45 deg angle. Of course I don't know all the technical details BUT one thing is sure, if sony did not have to design the A33 for A-mount, it will be much smaller.

?? the NEX mount is not necessary a mirror-less system. It is just a new mount with a shorter flange distance.... Are you the sony CEO? Why do you think they cannot put a translucent mirror inside the NEX, or some IR cut filter, some sort of translucent AF sensor in the future??

All the E-mount specify is probably the electrical contacts and flange distance... not what is in the flange distance... duh....

The old DSLR flange distance was set eons ago to accomodate many things like swing mirror, FF sensor, etc.
