Sigma 150-500mm in action

I shot this bird at about 6-7m and was trying very hard to balance on the rocks in the reservoir water and move very slowly and quietly without scaring away the bird. Oh! the guard told me that it's security reasons for him to question my identity as the reservoir is an important area. Hmmm.. maybe I looked like a terrorist.. ha ha

When it's mounted on a entry-level camera (400D), can it focus at 500mm (f6.3)?

Should be fine. Here are some of mine taken at the Bird Park on an overcast day, ISO pushed to the max (therefore noisy), photos cropped but otherwise unprocessed, at 500mm. Hand-held on a Canon 300D. Autofocus is slow, but functional.

I am impressed with this len. I took this picture handheld and it turned out ok. Value for it's price.

150-500mm looks like a good lens. Temptation growing.....

How is this lens compared to the Sigma Apo 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM?

Anyone has any experience on it?

what is the total cost when buying from Tin Cheung

cost of lens
cost of shipping
GST?

How does this compare to the 50-500? Seems to be the almost the same aperture.

Hi suggest you visit their web-site for price update. I got mine at $1290 inclusive of FedEx (1-3 days) shipping.

By the way FedEx will send you an invoice for GST. But less than $100. So insignificant.

For filter, you can get a Hoya one from Lords.

I was trying out the lens at CP yesterday. Realised that it takes some effort to turn the zoom ring. Wondering if it is new or it is build like that.

Mine loosen up a bit so that it turn smoothly now.

I'm using this lens, the 'smaller brother'. Chose this for the smaller size and can reuse my 77mm filter.
Not sure if IQ any difference between these two. I would think not since they are so similar.

Some of my shots taken with the 120-400mm.

Thanks. Nice photos you got with the lens.

How much you paid for that lens?

Another poisonous thread, How to "da hang"? I think better KIV first, just want to wait and see whether Nikon will unveil 80-400 AFS VR2 in the coming months.:)

Sharing another picture of a Woodpecker. Enjoy..

and another invoice will come from fedex for GST

thanks

The prices + delivery on the Tin Cheung web site sure look attractive.

Got a qn though; will there be warranty issues for local servicing for say a Sigma lens purchased from Tin Cheung?

I have sent Tin Cheung an e-mail with this question and also ask them whether they sell any grey products. They didn't answer my question regarding warranty, but they confirmed they sell grey products (Sigma 150-500).The other products I asked had no stock so they didn't elaborate.
How can I differentiate between a "grey" and "normal" product from Tin Cheung since nothing is stated on their website?
I am also interested to know the general warranty rules for Sigma Lenses purchased outside Singapore? What warranty card is required? Is receipt required with dealers chop?
Anyone who knows about this?
Thanks for your reply.

Perhaps writing to Sigma directly would help in the queries, e.g. if they'll honor warranty-servicing for lenses purchased out Singapore.

When I wrote Sigma (Singapore) a few weeks ago, this is what they said:

Generally no issue. I've called Sigma to ask the same question before. As long you have the warranty card and receipt/Delivery order, Sigma will honor it. :)
