Hi everyone,
Thanx for your comments and pictures. Your input, along with reviews I've read elsewhere, have helped me make the decision to get this lens.![]()
Hehe, i have decided to get this too. I was deciding between the tokina 11-16 or this. Both seems equally sharp to me. Im jus a newbie. But prefer this due to the affordability and the finishing of the lens.
Few shots to share
Using Tianya ND filter with wide angle filter holder (and any P Cokin compatible), will give vignetting at 10mm
all taken at 10mm, f9
what a joy to use this lens![]()
Nice fireworks~ #2 is great.
You can get the wide angle holder that has 1 slot. Otherwise can diy and cut off the 2 slots. Saw this from some forum about using the standard 3 slots for uwa lens. Otherwise, i think no vignetting at 12 or 13mm onwards.
. -Thanks azurebluee, mine is already the wide angle holder with 1 slot, and it still gives vignetting at 10mm. - hmmm  The guys in the other forum removed the uv filter before mounting the p holder. So lens only holds 1 p series. I do not have the holder but this was what I have read so far.
Anyone tried with 77mm b+w, will it give vignetting also? - not obvious vignetting (I don't think there is any based on my untrained eyes). I used the b+w nd100 for the tyrsall house shot. If used with 2 standard filters, obvious vignetting.
Alternatively we can use cokin Z series. I hope Tianya will come out with its clone :bsmilie:

-. im waiting for it too. Z series seems abit oversized
I used to have one that was rather soft.
Any users here using the 77mm "normal" CPL filter not those slim ones? May i know if you get vignetting if shoot at 10mm? --No vignetting if you are using only 1 normal (non slim) filter. For cpl on wide angle lens in particular, you may experience 'light fall off' or uneveness in the polarization of the sky. A short discussion here: http://www.flickr.com/groups/efs1022/discuss/72157604066637015/
Any ideas which brand to get? Hoya? B+W? Tianya? --I have used a basic tokina uv filter which gave me flare. I rarely use it now. B+W ND110 for long exposure. For Tianya GND which I will getting soon, from the contribution of hjbyeo and my research so far, with the wide angle holder (holds 1 filter only) no vignetting.
And any ideas also how much the prices are btw any of the brands? I'm currently looking one for this lens...--check from the shops or mass sellers which maybe more competitive than the shops.
HTH ;p

thanks azurebluee for your input,
right now don't know which one to invest in, either a tianya holder or screw-in CPL?

While waiting for TS to revert, i've used both and prefer the P series holder (tian ya). I use screw in filters when on holiday- less accessories to carry around lah.
Pros for screw in
- no need to mount holder
- cpl turns much easier than P series
- you can use the filter with smaller diameter lens by getting additional step up rings. 62-77mm or XX to 77mm.
Cons for screw in
- additional cost for the rings as above
- additional cost incurred when you need ND 2, 4, 8 and others which do not come cheap especially for 77mm.

Pros for P series
- same mount can be used with other tian ya filters: Gradual ND, blue, red, ND 2, 4, 8 and other colored filters
- Like the screw in type, you can get additional rings for P holder for specific lens
- it will be cheaper in the long run if you get other P series filter
Cons for P series
- additional steps for the set up compared to just screw in.
- tian ya filters may chip at the edges if you are rough with it.
- additional cost for the rings to fit other lens.
These are my personal reviews after using these 2 kinds. Its your choice I guess.
Mine too when I first got it. Sent in for calibration and it was much sharper.
Brought & used this during my korean trip 2 weeks ago....
