We have species #280 for Singapore.

A small colony was discovered within the CCA and both males and females were observed. Upon 'close scrutiny', it has been confirmed that it is the Arhopala eumolphus maxwelli(Green Oakblue).

This is the first intance that the species has been recorded and verified in Singapore.

Here is a shot taken today of the new member to the Singapore checklist .

Great work, Bluesteel. Thanks to you, we finally have credible and trustworthy evidence of this species in Singapore.

Papilio,

Thank you!

Credit must also goes to you for spotting the difference of the marking and length of the tail and also for correcting that it is a rediscovery and not a new discovery :

the Green Oakblue (Arhopala eumolphus maxwelli) as referred to in C&P4, is a re-discovery for the Singapore checklist. According to C&P4, it was found here before. Hence it is not a new addition as far as the C&P4 list is concerned, but nevertheless a +1 for the Singapore Checklist which I'm maintaining.

Here is a picture trolled from the net showing the distinctive upper of the male and female of the species.

Andy,

Very nice shot of the Archduke , this species is a ground hugger and on the rare occasion you might find him resting on a leaf.

Nice color of the Common Posy, I think the flash is a bit harsh . Shadow is always a problem in noon sun , in this case you could lower yourself a bit more to be at the same level as where the butterfly's feet touches the leaf surface, and that should take care of the shadow.

Sharing A newly eclosed Common Rose (Black) caught him ( I think) still trying to dry its wings

Saving The Harlequin

These two individuals could very well be the last generation of the recently rediscovered Harlequin in the wild.

Since its discovery last year ButterflyCircle has initiated a conservation plan for this eventuality , the ongoing conservation project has been thrust into high gear when we discovered leveling of their habitat last week.

We hope in our small way we can get them to propagate in another locality for future generation of Singaporeans to admire.

So its the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve area?

So its the Bukit Timah Nature Reserve area?

Hi Cantaresg,

Central Catchment Nature Reserves or Central Catchment Area (CCA) is bounded by BKE & PIE on the west, Old Thomson Road on the East and Lornie road and Mandai Road to the north respectively. The said Harlequin site is at the fringe of the CCA.

The Bukit Timah Nature Reserve is the patch south west of BKE bounded by BKE, PIE , Bukit Timah Road and Dairy Farm Road.

For obvious reason I am not at liberty to reveal the exact location till the conservation project is completed.

Thank you for your understanding!

Cheers!
