I understand it's not a problem with the later models of Rolleiflexes or Rolleicord that use the Synchro-Compur shutters. And with earlier shutter types, the main limitation was not to change shutter speed to 1/500 after cocking.

Well, I find that limitation of not being able to change shutter speeds after cocking as restricting ... YMMV. I guess it is safer to buy new Seagulls rather than 2nd hand since it's more or less affordable, and one never knows if the previous owner mishandled it :-)

100% of the failure were user faults, according to the repair guy.

For 4B-1, after cocking the level, DO NOT CHANGE THE SPEED. I saw so many 4B-1 got killed by user anyhow change speed after cocking. (I especially very scard of girls using 4B-1, usually the camera will die within a short time... not trying to be a sexist, but its ture not many read instructions properly before using).

Same for Rollei. The Copal shuttle does not like it. Althought the Rollei wont break so easily, you run a risk.

Actually for those who are used to old cameras, this kind of issue is quite common. Those who do use FSU rangefinders have got to do the opposite, ie, set the shutter speed only after you wind the film and charge the shutter, and not before. Otherwise you will mess up the shutter speed mechanism.

my first roll of color film on my camera. terribly upset with the results. i fudged up everything. sigh ... i think i am over pampered by digital cameras

the colors came out quite funny. i was using this kodak 160 film bought from ruby. dunno whether its the developer or the film. quite inconsistent.

and got these strands and dust. sigh ... what shld i do to remove those? service the lens or the camera?

my mistakes:
1. loaded iso160 and set camera at 400.
2. forget to change shutter speed after metering.
3. didn't check focus properly.
4. didn't load film properly.
5. underestimated the mirror slap.

If you used iso160 film but metered as iso 400 your neg will be more than a stop under so funny colour is normal. As for the dust it looks more like from the scanning than anything wrong with camera or lens.

oh i see. i think maybe try another shop to get my stuff scanned. thanks!

No you should go back to the same shop and tell them to scan for free as they didn't do a good job.

Testing another Rolleicord Vb, I really like this little baby ...
Kodak Tri-X 400, Rodinal Special, Konica yellow filter with a Bay 1 to 46mm adapter, don't remember settings

It was a really hot sunny day, we were drenched in sweat ...

Here is one shot with a Rolleinar 2 close-up lens, Bay 3 for the Rolleiflex 2.8F, Tri-X, Rodinal Special, UV filter.
I was about 1 foot away (setting near infinity), and she was too tall :-)
A Rolleinar 1 would be easier to manage ...

Went to check up on the kids in the afternoon, and they were already at this place,
cooling down :what: ... Tested multiple filters - UV, yellow and ND4 filters through a
Bay 3 to 49mm adapter. 3 filters + adapter, tested safe, no vignetting :-)

#2 is beautiful. Tight shot

Thanks, just trying out ... hope you find the Rolleinar ... post some Julia pics :-)

A couple more from a Rolleiflex 2.8F with UV, ND 8, and yellow filters. I like these ND filters, although a bit troublesome,
how I wish these MF lenses had shutter speeds of at least 1/2000 :-)

I found the Rolleinar. Now it is the price. How much to bid?:bsmilie: I am waiting for the negatives to come back. Long wait at Konota. It takes 4 days. Anyway, some from lensbaby

I like your 3 new postings. Your timing and framing are impeccable. By the way, did the guy at the coffee shop know you shot him?

Price, probably USD 120 to USD 70, they all vary, sometimes high, sometimes low. Depends on you now.

Nice shots with that lens baby ...

No, he didn't know, busy trying to make a call :-).

Thanks, I am bidding for one now. Hope I can get it. And do you recommend getting a rolleilux?

It's a nice accessory, but I don't trust selenium meters, I don't even use those on my Rolleiflex 2.8Fs. Even on the Leicas without meter (e.g. M4), I'd rather use the Voigtlander VC Meter II than their original Leica selenium ones ... YMMV ...

I think the Gossen that you have should be fine, and it can be useful since EV can be set on the Rolleicord. So just buy the Bay 1 hood, IMHO ...
