not being negative la but u should look at the situation objectively and assess it. if you know tnp's history u will know that they've always sensationalized their stories. Do you honestly think meeting with CS reps is gonna make them retract the stuff they brought up in that expose? and say o they were wrong CS is a wonderful place etc?

Ya la, what's the point, nothing will change, everything sucks, life is like that, we should all just go crawl into a hole and die.

the geek shall inherit the earth! Why don't you meet with the press and talk this place up then since you're such an advocate for it? or better yet volunteer to be a mod!

OK .... I am not sure if I understand you correctly on this part .... Here is my understanding and assumption .... Please correct me if I am wrong.

#1 Know fact - Reporters are amongst CS members / users.
#2 It is everyone's responsibility to look out for it (them / the reporters - I assume)
#3 If you dont take the necessary action - Are we suppose to alret someone when we realise a suer is a reporter or "brand" them so that the various shoot organisers know who they are and banned them from the shoot in case they report on them? Is this what you would consider taking action ... otherwise do not complain??

I am a little confused on that part of the statement ....

BTW ... the article on TNP did not mention anything about shooting XMM ....

If one is given an opportunity to set the record straight and put things in perspective, should one not even attempt it ? If after the meeting and it is clear that tnp is only interested in sensationalizing stories and not interested in reporting facts, then at least CS admins / mods / members who have attended that meeting can come back and inform the community appropriately.

Relevant points brought up. Drafting a PR letter and sending it off to TNP does no justice to the situation. What i was alluding to is for CS to somehow get TNP to do a piece on CS. What is needed is a measured and appropriate response with proper facts and statistics. I have a suspicion that if we look at "nude" postings, it will only be a small % to the total postings in CS. Breaking it down further, nude postings could well be classified as artistic or lewd. Again, highlight the fact that the postings are artistic and not lewd. And so on and so forth. Like u said, it is easy for them "to turn things around and jack the hell out of you" .. yes .. if u are unprepared and do not have the facts at your fingertips. There are always 2 sides to a story.

Singapore over the years have become progressive. One time, a lot of movies cannot be shown in cinemas because they contain adult oriented themes or they contain objectionable scenes. Liberalization came and now we have different classifications of movies. Thats progress. At one time, public performances were highly regulated , but i suspect of late, since Singapore is trying to promote arts and artistic meritocracy, the rules have been relaxed somewhat and u get theater performances with more mature content. At one time we were very guarded against gambling hence no casino. But now we have 2 coming up. Times change, mindsets change, society evolves.

Photographing "artistic" nude can be part of this revolution. It has been happening for years in the West. (caveat : i dont shoot xmm & portraiture so i am not speaking as an interested party) In similar light, CS is just evolving with the times .. we are progressive. We are a tolerant community that understands the evolution of photography - which is transitioning from just image capture to art form. Singaporeans are taking part in this evolution. It just so happens that some of these photogs are CS member. If CS does decide to set things right, some of these can be used .....

my point was basically, you can substantiate, do everything you can in your power to make sure that your words will not be taken out of context but once the press release leaves the hand of the moderators, its up to the newspaper to do whatever they want with it. you probably wont even get a chance to comment and they may turn the tables around on you to further discredit you. like the question said, they are really not interested in providing a fair point of view and going back now to to say the contrary will only make them look stupid.

it has happened time and time again to people whove granted interviews to the press, where their words were taken out of context to fulfill a certain angle they were hoping to pitch their story towards. and its not like we have another newspaper that will gladly report on the misdealings of the newspaper that took things out of context.

I never talked about meeting the press. I'm not interested in that. I'm talking about what the admin can do. We're not talking about the roles mods play , we're talking about the direction the admin should consider. Mod not equal to admin, admin not equal to mod.

i'd say its more constructive to approach a different newspaper. TNP is not gonna help CS. period. besides why set the record straight when the record hasn't been wrong in the first place? its not the forum that has a bad image its the bad eggs.

I never talked about meeting the press. I'm not interested in that. I'm talking about what the admin can do. We're not talking about the roles mods play , we're talking about the direction the admin should consider. Mod not equal to admin, admin not equal to mod.

she has always been fair in her reports loh...unlike the younger reporters....

but I do believe CS mods/owners also have their own contacts there.....

she can be fair in her reporting but you may not know what editorial decisions her higher ups may make. they may end up not running the story in the end too or worse still, cut out bits in her article in the name of 'space constraints'. happens.

but seriously, the diff papers operate as seperate entity...only thing they do is repost what the other papers post a few days after...wait till WanPao or ShinMeng repost the story...then CS will even kenna more ****..because those 2..really tabloid all the way...

if u do not make a rebuttal or clarification on the same paper....u actually leave an incorrect image in the view of that particular paper i.e. TNP for this instance...

not my intention to flame her either but there are things beyond her control that some people arent aware of. its not as simple as reporter writes article then it gets published as how she writes it.

reporters have angles they need to fulfill and editorial concerns when writing articles for newspapers. and probably even more so if we're looking at singaporean papers.
