you talking about TCW? their lenses are all around $200 the last time I asked and they do not have many. they told me they stopped buying in manual lenses for Pentax and only take in selected auto ones.:)

Yes. I didn't check the price as not interested. The only good stuff i got from them is the 80-320mm at a good price.:)

I can't remember what others I saw but the 28mm is definitely available at Toa Payoh and Ang Mo Kio branches when I popped by 2 weeks ago. good luck!

Had a look at the stuff at AMK CC... most of the lenses were in pretty bad shape (foggy, moldy) and only saw like 2-3 for K mount :(

Yeah... Lenses from Cash Converter must check properly...
Afterall, they are not relying on lens restoration to stay alive.
Meaning, they might not do a good job or know how to do a good job restoring 2nd hand lenses.

Seriously, bro & sis who are considering getting a Pentax, please do some research. Also go test out other brands in shop before you settle for Pentax.

I'm considering buying a Pentax, more than that, I bought a K10d body because it's really the best value for money today on the market, very well made, good lenses, not expensive and really full of very interesting features.

You know what, I'm even selling my nikon stuff to buy pentax. The only problem of Pentax in Singapore is that shops are too stupid to make something else than Nikon and Canon. I'm sure one of them proposes the whole catalog of Pentax and it'll make good money with no competition, but as soon as it's not Nikon and Canon, no one wants to take risk. It's a pity that all of them think the same.

No prob, I'll order my lenses from US or HK and that's money Singaporean shops will not get. I even think pentax users should organise to buy massive qty in once from HK or Japan to have still good prices.

I'm interested in 21mm, 40mm and 70mm, what's your next buy in Pentax brand ?

The problem isn't so much with the retail outlets in SG. Shops here are 'hungry' for Pentax gear and will mop up just about everything the local agent Shriro brings in. The problem is Shriro just does not bring in enough especially for lenses and accessories. Maybe its a logistics issue (stock allocation by Pentax JP) or Shriro is reluctant to commit in volume?

Another shop called OP imports from Shanghai/HK and even their stock availability and spread can be spotty.

Just check Shriro web site, they imports food and drinking. How do you think such people understand the photograph market of Singapore. There is not even http://www.pentax.com.sg web site with products, pricing. They just show a few cameras and not even lenses or usefull information.

Agree with you. Perhaps thats why the local pentax user had increased due to the effort of CS ?

I am one of the user who decide to join the Pentax ship with the help of CS.

I mean the Pentax users who were actively involve in this pentax forum :)

The advertising engines of the C and N camps are massive and they can employ better creative adverts in the media.

All Shriro can do is lame whole page advert in digi-life with the words "Pentax" on it. This is great for brand reinforcement (like macdonalds) but does nothing absolutely for promoting a product to a new user. Especially since there are so many agressive and hardcore C supporters who are Apple-like in behaviour.

On the other hand, C and N and even O's adverts are slick, packed with useful info to satisfy the faithful as well as first time buyers.

An effective print would be to showcase the 2 camera (K100D and K10D), spell out in a short paragraph Pentax's history, awards won, and features of both cameras. And a couple of great shots will make the impact complete.

Even after advertising in Digi-Life, the papers themselves don't even take note of Pentax. Look at today's Digi-Life, you'll see they names all other brand cameras except for Pentax:sticktong

as I said in a another thread, the industry is dominated by the dark side...all these people swear by C or N...and Shriro should have inserted an useful advert today to remind everyone Pentax is there too!

Good news: The local industry is actually aware of Pentax...
Bad news: They hear Pentax, they think PnS....

I just sent an email to Shishro to ask them what is their position for Pentax in Singapore.

Huh? Pentax?? they actually make PnS cameras??? :bsmilie:

Maybe Shriro isn't paying enough 'enticements' (and buying ad space) to get media writers' attention. Some big consumer product companies really know the way to a good review (even for a crappy product). Methods like loaning the product for review and 'forgetting' to take it back if the writer wrote a glowing review. Its all above board in SG.

I do notice more advertisements of pentax cameras up on buses, bus stops, taxi and digital life this year. But to me those advertisements are useless. It's not creative and informative. People will probably not even take a look at it.

The K10d is a wonderfull camera, it's almost similar to D200 and cheaper than D80. Sensor is 10Mpx, viewframe is bright, AF is fast, body is strong and well protected, features are rich and original.

On the bus, there is a K10d covered with red lines to say I don't know what, kind of reference to cars maybe. IMHO, I don't think anybody will just have a look at such kind of ads.

I read adverts that are informative actually but what can you read and what can you conclude if the advert only has 1 word "PENTAX" on it and nothing else?

Remember Shriro represented Nikon for the longest time and wrested the distributorship from Jebsen & Jessen, the previous Pentax authorised agent, so they ought to know a little bit marketing wise. Either they can't get enough product or their distribution network needs reworking. Even the big retailers like Courts/Mohd Mustafa, etc. don't carry Pentax. A crying shame if you ask me. So even their bus adverts might be useful but would be consumers can't get their products easily enough.
