The scary thing is, she could've actually been the best of the lot during the competition...

Boy & girls, let us be kind.

Each of us is a gift from heaven while we do have our own inadequacies.
Some have a limp, some a birth mark, some a clip lip, some a short tongue. Some of us are blessed with a excellent body with excellent health. Some sings like a nightingale, some talks fluently without even preparing a script.

We have to know we are just part of a system, part of a society.
And indeed, she is not eloquent, but perhaps she could have a short tongue and cannot really get her diction right. She may seem far from ideal, but accept her as she is as she was already crowned.

While some of you think holding this title represents glamour and fame. But to be one and hold on to the title for life is truly a difficult task. She is and will be remembered as Miss Singapore for 2009. If she becomes horribly fat or if anything bad that happened to her, it will be news - 10, 20, 40 years down the road.

I have a buddy who became Miss Singapore long ago. We had a gathering at her place. She pulled me aside and we had a nice chat to catch up. And she said, "Do not believe in all the glamour you see. It's a horrible world out there and to survive with the title is tough. Winning the title is not all that difficult actually."

well said

I pity the girl. She is clearly out of her league.

While we make fun of her "trying too hard to sound like angmoh" accent, it's not really the accent that we're too worried about... it's the lack of wit to be blunt.

Reminds me of one contestant when asked what she would bring to a deserted island, she said a mobile phone so that she can use the radiation to ward off creatures. Her English was a little better, but her wit... same league as Ris.

My question: Do the judges for Miss Singapore World hate Singapore? Do they have some evil twisted agenda to make Singapore look stupid in front of the world audience?

I just hope she don't blurt out 'World Peace' during the actual competition.

But I think the Singapore Organiser will come out with some kork story in the end and make some excuses for her not to go the Miss World competition. My predication.

sigh......i really hate the fact that someone like her is representing us.

i think my niece speaks much better english or even singlish...so to speak.

Our only hope is that she says she can't speak English. Then get an interpreter to translate from mandarin to English during the finals!

I wouldn't support Ms Ris Low just because she is chosen to represent Sg.

If she is put on the international stage, she will perform badly and, not only we wouldn't win, she will be a disgrace to us all. The right thing to do is pull her out straight away.

I agree. She's supposed to represent SG women, to be among the best of the best... And the only impression that is left behind is buck-toothed bimbo.

Ya ya ya, got translator feels more pro! It's like your country is very exotic and the language is very cheem. Good tactic! :bsmilie:

Yes to both of you. It would be, it seems, the only possible way out of this unfortunate dilemma. In the eyes of the international community, there is nothing wrong with her speaking in a tongue with which she is more comfortable. But of course, if one could imagine, the MSU organizers would cry foul, as I believe politically all the contestants selected in Singapore should be at least decently fluent in English language.

Somehow I can't help but imagine right this very moment, all the judges must be having pangs of guilt and butterflies in their stomach, thinking of what they have done. Looking back at the final decision of the judging panel may have given these fine people with good intention a couple of sleepless nights tossing and turning in bed.

Like many of the CS members posting in this thread, I don't harbour any ill intention towards the contestant. But as Rashkae has pointed out, she is supposed to be the best of the best. I find it a little difficult to stomach it, though if it is the final decision, I will just have to accept it.

You singaporeans need not be upset. Don’t be too harsh on her. She’s a talent, she's really funny without even trying.

Ris Low is the best of the best.

The judges couldn't find anyone better.
