please teach me how to shoot macro, I'm very weak in this area, the last shot done was more than 10 years ago.

me got no special skills, see bugs shoot bugs, everything set to Auto except focus

Nikkor 105mm micro AF and AF-D is 52mm

if i am not wrong the 105 VR is 62mm
There is an outer thread on the lens barrel for ringlight and it is 62mm. In fact, the mounting ring for my sunpak ringlight is permanently mounted there. ;p

That's a macro ringflash? not too bad right?

What difference is there from a studio ringflash?

BC
what's the difference between a hotshoe flash and a studio light?

Micro 60, 105, 105VR threads are 62mm. Micro 105 is actually 52mm but there is another outer ring on the barrel which is 62mm.

thanks for the info. I'm hopeless when it comes to gears specs.

I think that shot is using the studio ring light/flash

just get this, won't go wrong

That's just the flash head not including the power pack as it is mention:
"This Ringlight is compatible with all AC powered Pro-7 Series power packs (available separately). "

In the end, the Bowen one may be cheaper.

That is for the Pro 7 Series, it is alot more expensive. Acute 2 is more affordable, just as good.

yqt: I think the difference between the macro ring flash and the studio one is that 1) portability, 2) power putput, you can effectively fire the studio ringflash at, i think even up to 4800 w/s and if I remember correctly even 9600 w/s, if you really need to.

Another thing is also that with the Profoto ringflash you can get different reflectors(light shaping accessories) for the light. The coverage of the studio ring flash will of course be better, by virtue of the size of the ring, so you will get a larger light source before it starts to vignette.

Bro, I never say anything about it being cheap, haha.

Not sure about the Pro 7 or the Acute 2 as I've not used them before but I've used the Bowen and it proved to be good.

Other than what you have pointed out, one of the main diff, at least to me, is the filter size. Pro series ringflash usually have a filter size above 77mm so there's no worries about vignetteing on my image.

Your last para mention:

I assume that you're talking about light fall off? Yeah, agreed with that.

:bsmilie: :bsmilie: yeah!! but I did mention something about my brain not working today !!! This is the prove :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

don't shoot bees, butterflies, etc. shoot worms, snails, ....... :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

worms and snails still move too fast to get accurate focus

must shoot bees and butterflies,
but must make sure to remove the glass from the frame first
