Ricoh GXR! - Season II

Ah, i thought so. No longer have a GXR (kind of miss it sometimes), but i recalled the OOC jpeg being less saturated and more natural-looking (to me, at least).

I am the lazy type, no time to do post processing, and that's the main reason why I enjoyed shooting with the GXR (and now, Olympus), as the OOC jpeg are so sweet without having to do any additional work.

I'm lazy too haha and not good at PP. I'm in the mood of more sat pictures, so it's me likely, in transition to less sat:) So far Ricoh jpeg are very good, though I prefer Raw files colors for portraits.

GXR + S10

S10 has nice star burst!

Bernard, the output from the S10 is pretty good, like the star burst too. Processed from raw or jpeg?

I remembered when I posted about the GXR sometime back in the "Pentax" forum, I got panned. Now the forum has become Pentax/Ricoh and I see Pentax bros getting the GXR and S10. kekeke

It was JPEG. Autotoned in LR4 (but I didn't like the increased in exposure which I lowered), resized/bordered in CS4.

Does anyone have an opinion on the A16 24-85 module?

Currently using the GXR A12 M-Mount.

Like to check with you guys what power settings you use for street photography? What I do is I set it up with "Auto-Power Off" set to OFF and "Sleep" set to 1 MIN.

Is there other more efficient settings where one can conserve battery yet be ready to shoot as and when needed?

I can't say I have the best settings. I usually leave it on just let sleep after certain time (by default, I did not change timing, maybe is 1 min). I'm comfortable with sleeping after 1 min. There is no way to keep the camera cool even using with the EVF. My way to conserve batt are dim down LCD brightness, shorter sleep time and cut down on reviewing photos. (having mentioned the above, I still don't think it will substantially save batt power.)

Buy 3rd party battery for less than $10. The original is $60++ experience said 3rd party one died faster. Around 60-70% compared to original

I sold my GXR system some months ago - it was under-utilised.

But this is one of my favourite shot from the A12 28mm - that one is really a wonderful lens unit.

Donald, thanks for the post.

Andrew, can't comment, never had it. I think it's got to be good but I am sure a manual zoom ring may quicken operation. But that'll surely add to its current bulky size for a supposedly compact setup.

Gee thanks! The dimming of the LCD may be one method I may explore further. The battery life is really sucky though :p I seem to have to charge after every 2 days (and we're talking about just keeping it on for an hour on my kind of settings). Nevertheless its certainly a joy to use~

Donald, thanks for the post.

no prob. its a nice camera but i just dun use it frequently enough to justify holding on to it. i like the aps-c modules - they're really good for low ISO shots but the 50mm's AF is pretty slow.

Munual zoom ring might be nice but will not have the convience of doing zoom and shoot using one hand like a compact camera. A16 like the S10, can set up step zoom to move to the set focal length. The A16 is big but handling wise with the camera is good. The whole set up feels very well balanced, not heavy and can operate with one hand comfortably, don't have the feeling the camera or the lens weight down at front.

I just luv my GXR...

I think that's what I do too.. best is to have spares.
