Finally decided to get the GRD4 with all it rav reviews!!But $250++ for an OVF, the GV2... think i could make do with my really old one...
Hi Bro, i am a newbie always curious how is the view from the external OVF. do you see the subject in the OVF coming into focus like a DSLR? Thanks!
Not at all. The OVF is not an electronic component, thus cannot communicate with the camera. You will need to trust that the camera is focusing on the subject you want. But I guess people will be using snap, manual or infinity focus when using OVF.
Anyone bought the GRD IV white edition and find it easily stained? I had read that some people stained theirs when come into contact with jeans etc. The white version looks nice but at $120 more expensive and easily stained is definitely putting me off. What's more, the black version is out of stock almost everywhere. GRD IV is really popular!

It depends on how you use it. I have no issue using it accept the lens ring caught some strains of fur inside new GC pouch. I believe you wun put it into jeans nakedly. The finish of the white version including buttons are chrome and its not matte. This way it is not easily stained.
Finally bought my GRD IV today and surprised to find that black one was sold out at AP, TK, CP and J3:16. Bought it at MS but was shocked by the lack of Ricoh product knowledge of the staffs at main shop.
Me: "I want to get the Ricoh GRD IV"
Female staff: "IV is no longer available. Now is VI"
Me: "Since when is there GRD VI?!"
She: "VI was just released"
Me: "I want the Ricoh GR Digital IV"
She: "I told you IV no more. Now is VI" (Obviously she is referring to CX6...)
Male staff: "He is not referring to CX6 lah"
She: "Oh..."
Me: "I want to get the Ricoh GRD IV"
Female staff: "IV is no longer available. Now is VI"
Me: "Since when is there GRD VI?!"
She: "VI was just released"
Me: "I want the Ricoh GR Digital IV"
She: "I told you IV no more. Now is VI" (Obviously she is referring to CX6...)
Male staff: "He is not referring to CX6 lah"

it could be the colour fastness of the white finish and may not happen to every unit. Sometimes the lighter colour do get colour transfers from darker sources especially when a pressure is applied onto the surfaces that come into contact with each other. putting it inside the jeans pocket is a possible way that this happens.
put a jacket on the GR IV!!!

1 Improved flash firing for backlight conditions when the flash is set to [Auto].
2 Changed the focus bar display of the external AF*. When the shutter release button is pressed half-way (focus lock), the focus bar for the external AF will stop at the position where the focus is locked.
3 Changed the image stabilizer control. Using [P] / [A] / mode, the camera will take a picture without the image stabilizer function when the shutter speed is less than 1 second, even if [Camera Shake Correction] is set to [On].
4 Corrected the phenomenon below. A black line may appear at the top of the image taken with [Hi-Cntrast B&W] for [Image Settings].
