The new firmware is release.
Did you try it already? I'll probably wait till I can be sure there is no IS issue. ;-)

Ricoh will be releasing a firmware update for GRD IV on 27th Feb with the following functions:

Updated functions and descriptions:

1. Adds Function for Including Copyright Notice
Inputted copyright information is recorded to the image’s Exif data when a picture is taken. Up to 46 alphanumeric characters can be recorded, and the information can then be checked in the detailed file information on the camera’s playback screen.

2. Improves Auto Exposure Speed
The speed of auto exposure control has been improved, making selection of the proper exposure smoother.

3. Adds Function for Saving Snap Focus Distance at Time of Shutter Release to the ADJ lever and Fn button
The snap focus distance at the time of shutter release can now be saved to the ADJ. lever or the Fn button. The setting can be changed without having to go the menu screen.

4. Adds Function for Displaying Photo Information for Interval Composite Photos
For photos taken using the Interval Composite mode, this function enables a display of shooting times from start to finish, as well as the number of composite images in the detailed information displayed on the playback screen.

5. Adds Floating Black level adjustment function for Interval Composite Mode Shooting
The "Floating black level adjustment" function can be turned On or Off (default setting is on); if set to On, it can reduce noise at high sensitivities.

Finally there is an option to pair SNAP and focus distance!!

That's right. The much-missed feature from GRD 3 is back and there should give people who are holding on to their GRD 3 another good reason to upgrade :)

Hi all, i have a question, my GRD IV doesn't seem to be able to focus to infinity when i use spot/multi focus, is there something i'm doing wrong? (I tried it out on the auto setting, the "green camera")

Please help a noob out... =/

What kind of scene and lighting condition when you experience it?

You can use the snap function to set it to infinity or MF, another method you can use is to focus something far and then recompose your shot.

hmmm, meaning if i use snap mode with infinity snap distance, i should be able to get focus at infinity right?

I know that i tried with auto camera mode, multi/spot AF, and couldn't get infinity focus. thanks for the tips, i'll try them out and see what happens.

Theoretically, i should be getting the camera to focus on the subject in the centre if i use spot AF right? I have tried it and couldn't hence my worry... =.=

oohh.. i see.. Maybe should try a few times in different lighting condition, if it dies not work even using snap then I would suggest to go service centre to check.

Hi Guys and Gals

I just called A&P and they can customise the grip for Ricoh GRD IV at $80.00 for 3 working days.

I'm going to replaced the stock grip to wood grain for my white one next week. Anyone has customised their grip already?

There are 3 types of styles to choose from. GR DIGITAL IV / Digital Cameras | Ricoh Global

I thought of replacing the grip to leather but since I may consider getting the body suit from Ulysses, will save up the money instead.

This picture shows that it's a little more matte than the glossy feel in the ricoh website. If it's glossy, it's probably slippery and won't be as grippy as the original one?

Looks like its glossy http://www.ricoh.co.jp/dc/support/repair/customized/grd4.html

I'm not quite sure until I send it next week. I will post some pic of it then. :)

I think it's glossy, too. I thought about getting the wooden one for my white GRDIV but I'm not convinced it's a good idea. The original grip might be nicer to hold.

Pavel of RicohForum had tested the IS function on v2.10 and confirmed that IS is NOT TURNED ON for slower than 1 sec (e.g. 1.3 sec, 2 sec). faster than 1 sec should be working fine. Perhaps Ricoh expects us to put it on tripod for slower than 1 sec.

The effects of IS on shutter speeds slower than 1 sec is going to be very minimal. Therefore it's not necessary to turn IS on.

I have the feeling their IS mechanism is broken in some way so they turned it off for slower shutter speeds.

The wooden grip is matte. Saw it at the service center. Looks really good. I am tempted, but wonder if it impacts the grippy feel it has now. It's quite a small camera and I am a careless man esp. when kan chiong in getting the right shot.

I am really surprised at the quality of the images from a smallish sensor. Just look at the eyes!

I guess its prime lens and they call it GR lens. There is a reason they call it. Ricoh has GR lens for GXR unit too.
