I would think the next one is the D80 replacement.

Personally, I find the short brief hands-on article in dpreview makes the D60 quite an improvement over the D40/x. With D-Lighting and flip animation mode, and EXPEED thrown in, I reckon it's still quite a neat bundle in a body. But if it's going to hover about SGD1.5k, then I won't buy it for sure.

D80 body now only $1.2k-$1.3k plus.. even if this D60 is the same price as D80, would anyone still buy it as compared to buyin the D80?

The D60 price should include the body and the kit lens AF-S 18-55mm VR ......

Is there going to be a D60X not long after this D60? perhaps with a LiveView function?

those who gonna dump their d40x to upgrade to D60 / D80 / D300....

pls let me know..i interested in getting a d40x :thumbsup:

ME!!!!

PM me if you want to get my 3mth old cam.

true, same old camera with dust reduction slapped on top. But will reserve judgement after i see online reviews.

Yes, D60 really can't fight with 450D and alpha 200, it is just some minor tuning overall compared to D40x. Nikon still believes that this tactic will bring them to the top of the DSLR sale ranking. We shall wait for D90 then.

Several improvement over D40x:
- dust cleaning (also with airflow system)
- auto eye detect
- use Expeed processor. Will this improve high ISO noise over D40x?
- Range finder when manual focus
- active d-lighting
- stop motion video
- in-camera image editing

The kit set is now with 18-55VR

Price wise, the list price is about US$100 lower than 450D. Street price may vary but it is pretty sure that it will be lower than equivalent 450D.

It is a different market segment. D80 will be the one closer to the 400D/450D class.

D40/40x/60 has no equivalent class in Canon.

Have one, the 350D is still on Canon's product list. Though it is not selling well. There is a rumour that Canon will have a 320D to compete with Nikon D60.

• Fully compatible with AF-S and AF-I Nikkor lenses, equipped with an autofocus motor

• Compatible with most F-mount Nikkor lenses when using manual focus mode

is that mean the D60 still dun hav a motor in the body??

Anyone can show an example of an AF-I lens? Can't seems to find it

is it another newbie cam???? or it is goin toward the pro level?

From a major player in this field, the D60 is quite a disappointment leh. After the wham-bang D3 and D300, the D60 seems at best evolutionary.

Airflow system? Sounds like some K&N / Simota filter thingy!
3-point again? C'mon, smelly-smelly at least a 5, for Nik's sake!
Expeed processing concept... what's that? We need a system, not a concept!
Moving into P&S with 6.30 motion video? Then where's the live-view?
And they still forgot that we want the screwy thing in the body! AF-S lenses again? Gosh, what were they thinking?

Think I rant enough... but I do love the Nikon in-camera editing function and ergonomics... woe is me! Damn...:complain:

D60 is an entry DSLR, building on the success of D40x and replacing it. Good for ppl transiting from P&S to DSLR. This is one big market segment that Nikon has gotten a strong hold is not about to let go.

For those comparing it with the A200 and 450D, that is taken care of by the D80. :)
