Here in Singapore, we are very much regulated - CPF, HDB, expensive cars etc. Many of us dream of doing something outside the mould, but do not have the courage to do it. I guess it is due to our upbringing. It seems that Western societies are better suited for anyone to do crazy things than here. Maybe, those who want more freedom to pursue their dreams might need to migrate to the US, Canada or OZ.
No matter what the government wants us to believe, Singaporean can never be a really creative people, mainly because we are raised from a real kiasu and kiasi environment. From young we are brainwashed to excel in exam, go for a good career, and do not step OB. Even we must be the first to fly the A380 (which may not be a bad thing, but neccessary?). So let face it, we are generally good, but we can never be the best. Just compare CREATIVE and APPLE.... :dunno:
As an example: during a chingay.... let say one wants to be creative and take a photo from a creative angle which happen to be inside the boundary. The first thing you meet is the policeman to tell you to get behind the line. The logic is good and not wrong but it doesn't help to build a nation of creative young people - we always think, let's behave...then how to excel? But you look at who are inside the seats .... mostly people who got "connection" to get the tickets and many times a lot of empty seats at the vip rows! Then other ppl have to buy/pay for tickets for a road performance? I better stay at home and watch tv ..... everyone in Singapore is so contented that we know that "they" will do everything ready for us to be "happy" here. So get a steady job, get married, give birth (dont know now they want us to have how many children) and juz walk the malls during the weekend. that's life here.

In China, people can take the plunge and have got nothing much to loose. They start a small business, it grows and be properous.
Here, we are very different. Many would stick to the tried and proved path - a secure career, get married, get a HDB flat, a car, and later upgrade to a condo...... and not to loose out to our peers and classmates. Even if we have the courage to take the plunge to be an entrepreneur or artist, do we have the support of our family, friends and the society in general. If we fail, could we readily start all over again?
Pro photographer - could just be as boring, as routine and mundane as a 9-5 job. Those product shoot, wedding or event coverage. Would there be any paymaster for the creative artistic nude photo?
