thanks longko and otc. appreciate your inputs ... :)
longko, the chinese doorknob is sharp and contrast excellent!
otc, your housefly is beautiful, superbly sharp!

Pentax SMC 100 F f2.8 Macro!
vs
Pentax ASAHI SMC M 100mm f4 Macro!

So, is the manual len as good, albeit f4 macro only? is there basic controls or settings to watch out for, using manual lens?

regards,

Thx^^ Macro lens you can get a manual focus one with no worry. In any case, most of the best macro photographer uses MF even with an AF lens. But you need to confirm if it focus 1:1, cause some old MF macro lens only up to 1:2.

The main diff between f2.8 and f4 is when you do creative shots, where there are thin DOF at wide open. f2.8 will give u a more blur effect (bokeh) than f4 lens.

If you ever free on weekdays around 12pm-2pm, let me know. Maybe we can arrange a short meet-up to do some macro together^^

des- nice flower series!

seafone, try entering one of these shots in PentaxForums July contest. Think it'll have a good chance of winning. http://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/monthly-photo-contests/31184-theme-contest-23-july-2008-a.html

Think FW might win the Jun one if what I saw on poll is correct:think:

Longko, thanks for the suggestion. I am not keen in contesting as I usually do travel photography for fun and passion. Lately, too busy.. didn't have time to read clubsnap also. =)

cheerss..

If you are able to have A setting from the lens where you can control from the front or rear dial of the camera for macro, would be much better. Auto focus is quite useless for macro.

hi otc, your flower is gorgeous. the depth of field is so shallow.

if you say f4 is good enough, then it is prefered to use the manual 100 because it is cheaper, light weight and simple to operate for field trips (hiking)... lots to learn from masters like you and longko ;)

Do note 100mm f4 is a 1:2 macro, meaning u only get a bit more magnification than ur Sigma 17-70mm (1:2.3). I suggest u get a real macro lens which can get u 1:1 macro.

K200D with Vivitar 90/2.8 Still trying to take better macro.
Not easy trying to catch the bee. Appreciate any advice in taking macro.

Bees you try take further away and crop (this is good if u have lots of MP to play with as it gives u more DOF). Try to be parrallel to the subject and focus sharp at the eyes. How fast u can capture it will depends on how much u practise^^;

Thanks for the advice longko.
I will need to practice more to focus faster.
