Longko, thanks for the suggestion. I am not keen in contesting as I usually do travel photography for fun and passion. Lately, too busy.. didn't have time to read clubsnap also. =)

cheerss..

It's not really for the competiton (u dun win anything), but a form of support for the forum. It's like showcasing the better works of a theme representing what Pentax can do. It's just fun I guess.^^

Edit: Looks like the poll I saw a few days ago was right. FW won the June wide-angle portraits and I got runner-up^^ Grates FW^^

hi otc, your flower is gorgeous. the depth of field is so shallow.
Tks,lancer.

if you say f4 is good enough, then it is prefered to use the manual 100 because it is cheaper, light weight and simple to operate for field trips (hiking)... lots to learn from masters like you and longko ;)

Well, longko have already explained as M100 f4 is 1:2 mag. tot, tracking or hiking, a walk-about zoom is an ideal lens companion.

K200D with Vivitar 90/2.8 Still trying to take better macro.
Not easy trying to catch the bee. Appreciate any advice in taking macro.

Yarland, a good try being your first post. At 1:1 magnificaton, you will not be able to have the whole bees in sharp focus. as length maybe 20 mm and body diametre another5 to 10 mm and depth of field is extremely thin, even at f11, f16 in terms of a few mm.

Personally, I prefer a flashlight with a fast shutter to freeze the moving bees. I often use iso 100, f8, f11 flash, shutter 1/100 or faster or 1/180 for bees. Have to move fast as bees are constantly moving about. Take 20 shots and maybe one or two keepers:D That is normal for macro. Above all, try different setting ie different aperture/shutter/iso/ with/without flassh and compare and soon u will have better understanding.

Hello otc,

Thanks for the advice and it is very helpful. I had been trying to take 1:1 but could not get everything in focus, now I know why. I also taken 20 to 30 shots before find a few good shots.

Try Brightness +18 Contrast -28 then adjust the saturation. See if it helps:)

Ya, flowerpot bro's macros shots with the exquisite macro lens of his is getting really really good!

Thanks for the thumbs up... I was thinking of selling the lens (after the trip), but after processing some of the pictures, it appears that the keepers are mainly the 10-20mm... Maybe I shouldn't sell it after all! It's just got that dramatic feel to the pictures even with those distortions... Let's just try out the 20-35 for Labrador park and see how that works out.

Thanks, Aosis. It could be slight in some of the photos (could be saturation). I don't seem to be able to get it close to the masters at work. ...

I tried that out.. and it seem to help a little bit more.. Aiya, I'm quite 'frust' with my post processing.

Edit: no need liao, whatever u had done so far try in PS CS3 Image > Adjustments > Shadow/Highlight... Then shadow +38 to 50% and highlight 0%
