Photos taken by Pentax cameras for tech. discussion - Season II

Some photos from this year's NDP shot using two extreme focal lengths, 10mm and 500mm. Saw two young guys with K-5/7 and some DA* lenses around Esplanade. Anyone here?

Haha should be me. Are you the one using the super long sigma lens with monopod? haha!

Yeah, that's me. I wanted to go over and say hi but it was way too packed, especially after everyone squeezed forward to see the helicopters.

After 6 months I am still learning the handling of manual focus lenses on K5. I can handle the 'A' lenses but still fumbles on the M and Ks. Love my A 50f1.4 especially when used wide open. My K5 with a split focusing screen tend to front focus and it sure becomes more difficult to get my cat, Tami, in focus.

Tami wide open with A 50f1.4.

Hi Anthony,

how are you processing your pictures? i think they can benefit immensely from a bit of PP, especially if you're shooting RAW - maybe just a bit to bump up the brightness and contrast.

Ok, what about this, at a smaller size. I process in CS5 camera raw in prophoto RGB and convert to jpec in sRGB. The A 50f1.4 when shot wide open is not very contrasty and I hate to boost it then I would prefer to shoot at f2.8.

This is from the same raw original, except the cropping and resizing is different, same processing.

Both were converted from the same raw original, but the second one was cropped differently in photoshop and also applied with a 30% smart sharpening, so you are right, different. Thanks for your critic anyway.

Anthony, digital is not film. Digital output from DSLRs is made to be malleable, whereas for film, e.g. Velvia, a heavy amount of saturation is inherent, etc.

Your photos are currently still looking very washed out with a very flat look, even Auto Levels will help a bit with that. I know a lot of people have issues with "post processing" and all that, but photography is essentially about the vision, not about how little or how much you did in post. :)
