My second attempt at night macro. It's very different from daylight macro where you can open the aperture and let ambient light come. I need to use led light as ambient light and more flash power as fill in, and bump ISO > 1000 (lucky I got k-x ).

ISO1600, f11, 1/60

IMGP2824.JPG

ISO1250, f10, 1/60

Taken using Vivitar S1 105mm f2.5. The rest are here.

went to connector park behind my place only mah :sticktong

I'm thinking, will the hot shoe led light give more ambient light to illuminate the background? Can use color gel also then?

interesting... what effect do u have in mind with the colour gel?

i find the hot-shoe LED light overpriced!

the normal LED light i have is only $12 from home-fix. sure, have to mod a bit to attach it to the flexible flash arm but much better value imo...

Warmer effect so the LED light will look more like natural sun light, can I get that with colour gel?

I think the "made in china" one can get $80 from BnS.

OP selling for abt that price also. and that is precisely my point: its overpriced.

or maybe i'm just stingy... ;p

not too sure if u can get that effect with colour gels but have u tried tweaking your WB in PP yet? u might be able to get that effect without colour gels?

K-5 w/ Raynox w/ Voigtlander 58mm. Using Voigtlander is a little hard to get the perfect in your face sharpness. Flash is built-in w/ diffuser.

I am in a midst of making a diffuser of my own with some item I bought from Stationary shop. Wanna have something like a bounce diffuser kind thing. BUt dunno why still lazy and the items is catching up dust! lol

M85/2 (at f16) with reversed M50/2 (set at f2.8 for better DOF for focusing); Flash on hot shoe with large bounce card tilted down. ISO200; 1/125.

Still left with a 2-3cm working distance, which is rather fine for this subject.
I like this setup quite a bit. Its bright for focusing and the aperture only stops down when the shutter is released.
Not expensive either.
Lighting is better than expected, though I would have liked something mounted on the side and slightly above the subject in the hopes that it gives better definition to the subject. Then again, its straightforward to use, since its just a bounce card tilted down.

paper wasp having a salad on christmas day ;)

quite an unusual sight as i thought wasps were mainly parasitic and carnivorous. turns out that the paper wasp is omnivorous and eats plant nectar as well. rare to see them eat anything but rarer to see them eat plants ;p or maybe i'm just swagu.

you can see the camera with the large bounce card in the eyes! :O

Had been a Panasonic GF1 and LX3 user, but finally decided to go for the K-R! Got my new K-R on Christmas Eve, a sweet present for myself. Still exploring with my 18-55mm kit lens, hoping to save up to a nice len set next.

Merry Christmas to all!

First trip to MBS
