Photos taken by Pentax cameras for tech. discussion - Season I

usually I set to a shutter priority (Tv) for night concerts. And although you'll get a lot of underexposed photos, when the light beams to your subject, you will get better, less blurry images.

Recently i was contemplating whether to sell away my DA 50-200mm.
Well, went to the bird park today and the DA 50-200mm was brought along.
After some frenzy shooting, time to review the pictures in the comp and wow..,
the DA 50-200mm is not bad...not bad at all. Here's a picture to share.

Few shots from Kent Ridge Park, quite a nice place to shoot macro/bird.

Better than macro lens with your tamron 70-300, the rendering of the oof of the dragon fly.

Thanks.
I also used the K3 focusing screen + OME-53 magnifier eyecup for this shot.
Pentax A100mm/2.8 @ ISO400, f8.0, 1/125.

Seems like 2X mag for this spider. macro converter used? Raynox? cropped?

Took one using panagor macro with vivitar macro converter. should be 2X mag. f16, M mode, monopod with on board flash.

Most of my night macro shots are cockroaches, not interesting enough :bsmilie:

Shooting night concerts can be very challenging, you need to experiment to see which setting will give you the best results.

Will the increased grain from higher iso affect the image be worth the trade off of lower blur from higher shutter speed?

Will the lower sharpness from using the lens wide open counter the handshake from a higher shutter speed?

I have found using TAv mode to be very useful - you can just keep pushing the shutterspeed and aperture as low as possible, and let the camera choose the iso.

Also, if you are a K-5 user, you can also try shooting in RAW with negative exposure compensation - i.e. shoot underexposed so you can use a lower iso, and then readjusting in post.

This is due to the simply incredibly good low iso performance of the K-5, if you are able to touch iso 100-400 by using negative exposure compensation, you should have no problems correcting exposure in post.

usually I set to a shutter priority (Tv) for night concerts. And although you'll get a lot of underexposed photos, when the light beams to your subject, you will get better, less blurry images.

I will definitely try on Tv mode next time. I am already in RAW format and look like "shooting underexposed and re-adjusting after post processed" will be a good idea too. Thanks for the tips!! :)

Hi...
It is long time I didn't post some picture here.

As I don't have fast lens for long FL, but I really like long FL for outdoor shot, then I tried some tricky shot with DA 55-300mm at its 300mm and at its best sharpness, F7.1

Here is the pic:

Sharing some pics taken from land of the dead.

Due to handheld, was able to choose a clean background much easier as compared to other big guns with tripod.
There were >10 big gunners pointing at this bird.

another shot using TAv mode @iso 1000, if Av mode will be iso 1600.

Really very nice works.
I like how this one stacks the foreground foilage to the subject and then out to the background.
The use of IR for this just takes away the distraction than can come from the greenery.
Great!

Went to Kent Ridge Park again this morning. Since it's raining then moved to Alexandra Park Connector behind Queenstown MRT, didn't expect many insects there. I was wrong :)

All pics were taken using K-x and Vivitar S1 105mm f2.5 with YN560 on shoe and DIY diffuser. The rest are here

Can someone kindly advise the name of this specie of spider ?
Thanks in advance
