i think i will too.. watching the sunrise at the lake really makes you feel like you're so lucky to be alive each day :)

i agree with the OOF bit. the previous sunrise shoot i focused around infinity but lost sharpness in the foreground. this time round i made sure the foreground was sharp, esp since the background has very little detail anyway. at first i was shooting at abt 12mm f/11, hyperfocal 0.65m, 0.35 to infinity in focus. however, as the sky got darker and darker, i was limited by the 30sec shutter speed and had to open up aperture and bump up ISO. that's why the pier photo is a bit OOF towards infinity, and a bit noisy too.

next time i will bring a stopwatch (on ipod touch) and my cable release and go for bulb mode >30s exposures. should solve the focus point dilemma

Thanks for sharing the technical bits.

This evening's sunset at Lake Michigan. Walked 2km from my dorm but in the end the overcast skies were quite a let-down.

University of Wisconsin?
I was there for the "Kites on Ice" event about 5 years ago...
The lake hasn't froze solid yet?

Hi,

Can't wait for the Dec outing, took my Pentax K20D for a walk after dinner (not a usual practice), come across an accident and took my first of such happening. Only armed with an old manual Tamron 28mm F/2.5. Here is one of the photos:

Wow, marcus, those shots are pretty good, im also following suit, ordered a takumar bayonet 28 f2.8. Im not sure what kind of extension tubes to get, FW told me to get the original one but it's hard to find, my reverse ring is on the way too...

I've tried cupping my A70-210 reverse and in macro range, it's almost like a microscope :sweatsm:

Charlie, you can get the PK without A contact for ten over dollars ebay, about 60 mm tubes and when used with 28 mm lens, will gives more than 2x magnification. Set-back is working distance will be extremely near to the subject, may almost touch the subject. Not possible for insects. The reverse ring with 28 mm M pentax lens gives me about 2 to 3 inches of working distance. Only one focal point for that sharp image and mag. To use M mode manual focussing and flash lights.

Mounting a Raynox 250 on the front of lens may provide some magnification for macro. About $100/ raynox lens.:D. The last outing in sembawang, someone tried my raynox lens.:D

Shot this with A200 macro f4, two flash fired, mounted on tripod.

Pictures was cropped.

Better details with this lens, imo.

the images are very sharp and the shadow is soft. is it due to the 2=flash set-up?

Yes, Seefei. Sharpness comes with tripod and air is still. The 2 flash light systems helps to lighten the shadows, one mounted on hotshoe and the other one lower to the right ie horizontal position. You may want to follow flowerpot flash with K kirk bracket and seems popular and helps to alleviate hard shadows.

to keep the "Bokina" (tks, FW) in the cabinet.

To redeem myself, took it out for a walk yesterday.
