Testing the Tamron 70-200, all wide open.
Taken with k-x, handheld as the guys there don't want me to setup my tripod cum monopod. :(
Aperture Priority, multisegment metering
- 2ev compensation I think.

What usual settings needed for this type of shots? I'm having hard time on center weighted metering. :(

Nice live band shots. WB looks a little off I think. Tried spot metering on the artiste's face?

Oh thanks, I just used AWB from k-x then ported the JPEG files to picasa for quick adjustment. I didn't noticed that the WB is slightly on the warm side as there's so many light source to consider.

Spot metering is the least thing I've considered here as the lighting pans faster than my finger hitting the trigger. And also weight of 70-200 is too cumbersome to carry without a monopod.

Anyway, here's another shot with quick adjustment.

Ist time shoot with a 67mm Tokina CPL + Tamron 17-50, need commnets from landscape
experts. :)

I find the top left corner is abit dark. Is this normal for CPL?

Nice beach photos you've got there! The water looks so inviting.... ;p Among the pics you posted in the gallery thread, I still like these two that you featured here best. We got same taste?

The top left corner is a bit darker than it needs to be, but it's not unusual when it's taken with a CPL on. Depending on the location of the sun, how clear the sky is, and what angle your CPL is at, you can make the afternoon sky look like those deep-blue, dusk skies. Probably not a good thing 'cos the pic will look very unnatural. And because of the wide angle, the effects of the CPL will be uneven across the whole scene. No way to avoid that.... if it bothers you, you'll just have to work without the CPL when shooting wide angles.

Not sure what you mean when you say that you didn't rotate the CPL though.... when I shoot with a CPL I usually rotate the CPL around to find the right shade of blue for the sky after composing the scene and before I set the exposure (if shooting in M mode).

For this pic I'll definitely correct the slanted horizon. Might also consider cropping off the bottom a bit to bring the horizon lower (rule of thirds). But then you'll lose the effect provided by that vehicle trail on the beach, so maybe leaving it as it is is also good.

Yeah I like these 2 pics. The lady in the 2nd pic juz nice to be the subject that fits into the rule of 3rd.

I mean I didn't make any adjustment to the CPL, I should have done so to find the right shade of blue. :(
Hmm.. next time I'll try with & without CPL & see how?

Thanks for pointing out, after I posted the pics in the gallery then I found out some of the pics horizon slanted, I even have some pics with dust spots until someone pointed out then I correct it. :embrass:

You are right, cropping off the bottom to meet the rule of 3rd but will remove vehicle trail (leading lines) effect. Luckily I have another shot with only 1/3 portion for the horizon.
