I'm betting (just a strong hunch without any insider knowledge... keep this is mind please!) that the K7's successor will be announced in the first half of 2010. It seems to me that Pentax/Hoya is in a hurry to put in the new K-x sensor into the K7's successor to achieve a rapid dramatic turnaround in sales numbers worldwide... a la K-x.

first half of 2010 ? That's mean between now to June .... If that case , might as well I buy k-7 1st and come June, I will trade in my K 7 ....to a better one ..

There might be new replacement. k-7 is 1 year old by june. but I hope that changes would be limited to performance upgrades and not to body itself coz I find it's body is perfect already.

As much as it would be good financially, I don't like these minor changes. (If it's labeled K7 Super, I'm fine. But not as a K8) I'd rather wait for some "real" advancement ala K10D to K20D, and the time difference was what, almost 2 years? After all, Pentax has been known for innovation, not churning out minor revisions every few months. Leave that to the other brands.

New camera coming is for sure. Just don't know the direction (ie. Kx type sensor or FF)

There is no K7 successor or Kx successor in the near future, just a bunch of P&S cameras plus the 645D, at least for the first half of the 2010. A new dSLR (other than the 645D) will only come out by the end of the year

But we might see the rebadged Samsung NX in the first half of the year though

I think neither will likely to be true.
if they use k-x type sensor, they will be the first one(?) to downgrade in terms of megapixel?
and also they won't go into FF i think, which they have reiterated many many times (they go 645D). and to be frank, FF market is not that big so far, which is even smaller considering pentax's market share.

i think they are doing 645D in the first half? so do they have the resource to do k8?

Am wondering how many of us here have a strong gut feeling that the reason this price reduction is taking place right now is because Pentax is soon going to announce the K7's successor... i.e. this time with the K-x high ISO sensor? Need to rapidly clear up old stock first before the new announcement is made, correct?!!

So which will be better for the long term... a K7 now at its currently discounted price... or its forthcoming successor at the price the K7 was launched at? I would choose the successor with the super state-of-the-art sensor... because I do a lot of shooting at the higher ISOs.

That said, the K7 is definitely available at a killer deal for those who primarily shoot at lower ISOs. Grab them while you still can... or wait a little longer for an even better deal (most probably dual/WR kit lens offer, as per Fengwei's hint!)

Your guessing is wrong. The reason for the local price drop of K7 is purely because the local sale isn't moving, so Emjay is trying to promote and expend the sale of K7. The price might bounce up after the CNY

And to promote the K7 sale even further, Emjay might have some other bundled deal, as I said above. Most likely to bundle the twin WR kit (DA18-55WR and DA50-200WR) because as far as I know these two kit lenses are priced too high, not many have been sold. They might wanna push the sale of those WR kit lenses too.

I myself might get the WR twin kit if the price is right ;p

was actually planning to get either the sony a550 or canon 500d this week, but after reading so many good reviews on the pentax k7 i have decided to get the k7 instead, but hanging on for good promo packages as per the rumours. hope it will come very soon!

Can clarify what you meant by 3rd party lens for 17-70mm? As far as I know, third party brands like the sigma 1770 is 2.8-4.5 and only the Pentax DA1770 is F4.

no idea, the info came from a friend who went there the other day. didn't ask as i'm aiming for another lens. you are probably right, could be the DA1770.
