Heh, don't think so shallowly ^^ there were lots of times when I was late and ran a long way to the MRT station to catch the train and perspired a lot. But that's besides the point la.

Actually, I know that... I'm just playing pr*ck

The train is aircon... by right you shouldn't be perspiring...

On another note, maybe should fine those stinko pple who stinko the train... :P

Huh, that means aryanto will kena fine. Cos he fart. :bsmilie:

Awhile back, I have a severe cough. So serious was my bouts of cough that I would be kneeling on the floor coughing my lungs out till I vomit air/tears down my eyes. I always carry a small bottle of water to drink in case my throat gets too dry or itchy to halt the coughing fits. How lucky I am driving now, I can just catch a sip from my straw, waterbottle anytime. I think if someone vomits blood on the floor and blackout, will the MRT staff issues the fine to him/her first then call the ambulance or vice verses?

Many places, there are no eating or drinking restriction, but in most places, the rule is enforced with reason.

here in Singapore, "reasoning" is something alien to the culture. I am sad to see, this will be another of those instances, where the SMRT staff will go way overboard, trying to control eating and drinking on the train and in the station.

Eating maybe a bit much to tolerate, but taking a sip of water? I wonder, who will they deal with Caucasian tourists? Singapore is generally bit too hot for them. Taking a sip of water or a cold drink is one way they can tolerate the heat, and the humidity. Wonder, will the SMRT staff start scolding them and issuing fines? And then, how will SMRT ensure the fines are collected.

This is going to be a farce.

sip of water, i think should be ok, though i've never felt the need since taking the train from '89.

personal encounter #1:

- couple hugging very tightly(fine) n a lollipop stick in the girl's mouth(should be fined :) )
- was with family n that guy has tattoos all over(yaeh, i'm quite a coward when my kids r next to me) so kept quiet.
- girl spit stick onto the floor.
- smile n told her she dropped something, she is funny enough to smile back n say she doesn't want it anymore.
- asked her sternly what makes her think the train wants it?

to be honest, i'm fine with water, cough drops, lozenges n things like these,
but i've witnessed popcorn, mcmuffin, chicken rice....

the single item that really irks me is CHEWING GUM!!!
remember vividly that one of the reasons cited for my beloved's banned is that it'll jammed the doors of the trains,
yet today, i've not stepped into a cabin without seeing a bubblegummer.

singapore is made up of singaporeans (majority at the moment),
so the train staff is just a mirror image of ourselves.
but i doubt there is anyplace that enforce any rules to the satisfaction of
ALL of its residents.

need not name me any personal encounters,
for u will be a foreigner there n be treated with more leeway,
just like any tourists in SMRT.

Actually, as a non-local resident myself, I used to have an impression that Singapore is a very strict country, especially with the infamous ban on chewing gum. I thought to myself that this is probably how Singapore managed to keep itself clean and green.

However, 10 years down the road, I get more and more disappointed with the reality of things. In fact, somebody told me that the reason why Singapore keeps itself clean and green is due to the huge budget in hiring cleaners to clean the estates! :bsmilie:

Seriously, if pple cannot even follow simple rules such as this, enforcement is really necessary!

Enforcement is fine but not to such an extent. Enforce all you want but relax 1 small bit. And if the commuter tries to extend this small bit of ruling, then FINE EM!

At least not so much HOOHAA I suppose...

I guess, the main purpose of such unreasonable act from the officials are to seriously inject the importance and seriousness of the issue and at the same time to re-educate for what we, Singaporean, are taking for granted for so long.

Im quite sure that the SMRT stuff will react according to situation regarding to plain water issues, of course, food items (including sweets, lollipop, desert, main course, blah blah, anything which requires teeth to bite/chew/ gobble) and all sorts of drinks except plain water will not be allowed strictly. SMRT stuff wouldnt want to get fired from the job just because some passengers are drinking plain water, because if its the case, im sure alot of people will start writing in to complain all over the place.

This kind of act wouldnt last long i can say, they would slowly withdraw this rules as time passes and of course if the situation gets better. Lets work hard guys !

Correct. To quote yesterday's TODAY:
The tougher enforcement measures will continue until there is "a sharp reduction in the number of commuters flouting this rule", said SMRT.

Remember a while back we have people who ignored their condition of their windows and a few cases of accident happened. After that every households in Singapore have to engage a qualified window contractor to check and approve the safety of their windows. Now the MRT fines. Why?

Well, all because of a few rebellious and selfish people who take things too far who think that they own their right to eat on the public transport. If everybody has respected the printed notices or rules on the train, this "fine" thing may not have happen. :bsmilie:

The excuses I'll give if I kena fined:

1. I got gastric, if it get worse, are you going to be held responsible?
2. The food contain coconut milk, if cold and not kept properly, will go bad.. (Nasi Lemak)
3. Aiya, my drink so sugar, ants won't come.. (chinese tea)

Haha.. Excuse me for being lame.. :bsmilie:

Sorry, no excuse... $500 for you... :nono:

All inconveniences are due to the mindless few who think they are above the law.

Too many lame Singaporeans hence the lame rules. For every action, there's an equal and opposite reaction. Suck it up people.

very good, i saw lot of students eating and drink on the buses or trains.
