OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

is it ugly?

Hi, very new in this. care to explain where is the 12-40 mount? is it the connection to the camera? If it is, this is serious. Because both the mounting parts of the camera and lens are metal..... my 5 cents worth......:dunno:

The lens mount is where the lens is 'joined' to the camera body. The bottom plate itself.

So far there's 2 cases (both overseas) regarding this. One case was the guy had 'accidentally' kicked his camera bag off his couch while the other case is the guy had carried the lens alone in his bag.

Hmm, I wouldn't worry too much yet. Will prefer to spend the effort shooting since I'm confident if really so suay , Oly SG will definitely fix it at no charge.

Will be glad if the local case can share more details :) good to hear what happened.

Saw a few of the original four-thirds 14-35mm f2 lens being offered for sale on buy and sell. I'm still hanging onto mine, the 14-35mm is an amazing lens, in my opinion, there is no equal. I've used it extensively for events at my workplace and pairing it with the E-M1 has given the lens a new lease of life - super sharp, and the focusing is excellent.

May I know which shop has the best price for em1 with 12-40mm?

Don't be afraid to share price here as this is what a forum is for.
if cannot share price then there won't be a price guide subforum right?

Sharing the price is fine. But as I have stated that it is my policy here NOT to share prices with shop details. Don't go screwing shops who are selling below MSRP as dictated by their manufacturers. I don't encourage this practise. Because soon, shops will be sending their own people to sabotage the other competition and it will be a mess. It happened before and made moderators pretty busy. I don't want this to start in this section ever again if possible.

You can post what price you bought.
If interested, people can contact you through PM (that's what it's actually for, private) and find out where you got it.
Share if you want.

So please, no naming of local shops when posting prices. Thank you for your cooperation.

Thanks mod for clarifying thr reason for this. I finally understand now. Thanks.

But in price guide thread, everyone is posting the shop name with price.
You can check from all the post in that sub forum.

Why isn't the moderator restricting them on posting the shop name with price?

Because the prices on the price guides are the MSRP/RRP as listed on the shops?

I still don't get it. In other countries it works.

Heehee... like cops, we each have our jurisdiction. Moreover, I founded this section and would rather keep this section "as problem free as possible". There might be cowboys in the other sections but at least in this section, the community has lesser crazy people. LOL!

Anyway, this section is equipment discussion and not price discussion. That is why the price list was moved out to another section of the forums.

Back to the E-M1... finally... beating everything else released this year to be the camera of the year at Imaging Resource. That is quite nice. Especially when it is in the "pro" category.

Since this is an equipment discussion thread , we can try to keep to the main theme.

For sharing of prices ,the mod has made his stand clear. Sharing prices , freebies is still definitely a good thing for this community here, especially for the newbies but let's just leave the shop names out. Interested ones will definitely bother to PM.

I have tonnes of PMs asking for where I bought my stuff and I always do reply to them though of not like a help desk always within 24hrs haha.

Remember this is by far the only equipment discussion thread where the people (we) are civil enough to tolerate the indepth discussion of another brand's equipment. Ahem7, and that shows a long way to how open already the people here ah.

The worry is when the entire lens gets smashed onto the floor (should it ever get dislodged from the mount in a free state).

Ok, that's duper frightening. So far I'm touching wood ;) Choy !

Think the purported issue so far anyway is that the tightening screws are too short and that the breakage was idue to shear forces, not pull etc but really, it's still too muddy for anyone to conclude anything proper :(

Ok, i agree with you on this. I think we shall keep this thread as equipment discussion only.

Another case for awareness.

Quoted from the user gronolajoe :
"I can't read all 39(?) pages of this thread so I'm wondering is there only one broken lens here or multiple people with the same issue? I ask because my 12-40 has done exactly the same thing. I didn't drop it, For the life of me, I cannot figure how it could have happened. I pulled it out of the bag and the lens was exactly like the OP's pictures. It had been sitting in the back seat of my car in a Domke bag. There is no way that there was enough force applied to it to cause a failure like this."

Hmm , 3rd case with the breakage along similar reasons within a few months. Frankly I'm worried but will continue using the 12-40 and see how it goes.

I'm interchanging this lens between the EM-1 and EP5 and bringing it out in a Billingham Hadley or in Crumpler Haven around 3-5 times per week. The Haven's if u know doesn't provide much cushioning support.

Quite a few Bros here with 12-40 and seems like all ok so far. Local vs them overseas. I wonder whether may it be a batch specific issue? If mine suffers the same wretched fate (touch wood) be assured I gonna wring an answer out of Oly ;)

End of the day I'm definitely not gonna freeze it in my dry cabinet or make any changes to the way I use it.

I think so far no one experience any of those problem in Singapore.
Which country is the lens made from (Japan/Taiwan/China etc) for those who bought it locally?
