OMG! Look at the EM-1 aka the now official E-M1 Thread

is it ugly?

its a 5207xxx or 5287xxx I'm not sure.

and.. again , in case this starts to freak pple out. There is no statement or evidence that the damaged lenses were associated with the production batch and there's no clear answer yet.

i'm sure we've pple here constantly looking at the mu-43 forums. Mind just updating if there's any news about the 3 cases mentioned there?
Oh no... I just realise that the cap of external flash connector is missing. It just disappeared before my eyes when I took out my em1 of my bag this morning.
So I check with OSC regarding this matter. I have to pay $5 for tiny cap but the cap is OOS at this moment.
To play it safe, I ordered 2 pieces of stupid tiny caps. I would tape the cap with gaffer tape once I get the cap.
Aaaarrrggghhh.....this stupid #@%#ing cap. What a day!

Remember the days when we lost the whole eyecup of the EM5 ? ;)

Now at least no more this problem.

Can always buy lots of them as spares cheap-cheap from ebay. ;)

kinda bittersweet as I just got the OM1 today to try out film but I am going to try returning the OM1 as i just saw fungus in its viewfinder and rear lens element.

Saw this article. Can any one comment about the Auto ISO behaviour in Shutter priority mode and Aperture priority?

http://smithclicks.com/hardware/olympus-om-d-e-m1-review-7/

"After praising Olympus for their excellent IBIS and auto white balance, I unfortunately have to come right back around and body slam them for their autoISO implementation.Like their focus peaking implementation (that’s coming up), Olympus decided to go real half-arsed on how they do autoISO. It’s either on, or it’s off – that’s it.You’d imagine, in the universe of options allowed on the E-M1, Olympus would have seen it fit to allow minimum shutter speeds on autoISO (like almost every. other. company. does), but instead they just allow a simple On/Off implementation. There is a glimmer of hope, though: When shooting in Manual mode, Olympus still allows for autoISO implementation. One could arguably say that they’ve given us very good minimum shutter speed control, as long as you’re in Manual mode, but still I’d love to see minimum shutter speed options for when shooting in aperture priority and maybe some other modes."

Also any comments about the EVF frame rate with focus peaking?

"
Apparently the same person that programmed the autoISO must have had focus peaking as a mere side project, because the feature is very undercooked. First, Olympus gives you any color of peaking you want, as long as you choose from black or white. No red or yellow (you know, colors that would actually be noticeable), but black or white. If you’re photographing something dark, I must admit white works fairly well – but how often does one manual focus on only dark objects? The next problem deals with actually enabling focus peaking – it considerably slows down the LCD/EVF refresh rates — down to about Fuji X-E1 EVF-in-a-dark-room speeds. Supposedly, this is because the peaking function is actually a pseudo “art filter”, and that seems to be the case. If you enable an art filter (say, soft focus), you’ll get a preview of the filter on the screen, but as soon as you also enable peaking, the soft focus preview goes away and the peaking function takes over (with a boost in contrast, it seems)."

There is a workaround for minimum shutter speed, it can be set in the slow flash sync limit.

As for focus peaking, yes it is horrible compared to other brands. Its probably an afterthought, simply hacked in through the use of the art filter.

What about using shutter priority?

hi Robin,

Can any one comment about the Auto ISO behaviour in Shutter priority mode and Aperture priority?

Is your question on the efficacy of auto ISO or on whether is a min shutter speed allowed on the EM-1?

- if its abt ISO adjustment, one may select ISO values to use whether on A or S mode. I've no complaints so far with the times when I left the camera to run on auto ISO. Accurate enough. :)

- if its about min shutter speed. as Nitrile shared, there is a workaround.
if in S mode.. honestly I'll just set the body to the shutter speed i require straight.

by far, Oly's min shutter speed control is very good, if not I'd say excellent.

and.. if I'm going to be really particular with the shutter speeds while in A mode, frankly I'm sure being an experienced user , we will simply swop to M mode instead.

EVF frame rate w/focus peaking.

Fuji has some one of best OVF w/info overlay around and I'll say the EM-1's EVF and Fuji's OVF with overlay is perhaps one of the best I've experienced.

Of course lag can never an absolute zero. so far the EVF has almost zero lag, at least not noticeable to me in use.

Engaging focus peaking in EVF does slow down the refresh rates, but I wouldn't say its down till XE-1 EVF in a dark room speeds. The refresh rates can be improved but at the moment it sure is usable.

I plan to shoot indoors mainly and would be working at the maximum aperture of F2.8 on the 12-40 zoom most of the time. I hope to use shutter priority and auto iso, hoping that since the light won't be enough, it will lock it mainly to F2.8 while I play around with shutter and let the ISO auto shift. Occasionally I would also need to do exposure / flash exposure compensation easily. Just want to confirm that it would work like I think it does and not have any quirks that I don't know about. Thanks for the reply and help.

Where is this being discussed in mu4/3 forums? Any updates? I am very interested. Wonder what is the mechanism for the mount to come off?

No worries :) but if it's shutter priority mode, I think it will be an effort to lock aperture at f2.8 as the camera by right will auto adjust aperture to adjust for shutter speed changes. I'll go for M mode instead but I like your idea & will try it out.

If u wish to try the EM1 with 12-40 just drop a note and if we can find a time and venue I can always let u try it as I understand that it's impt to know abt the equipment especially when there's a specific need. In return I m sure I can learn from u coming to Fuji equipment too.

I was thinking it should work by finding not enough light, so keep max aperture and keep reducing ISO if light is too high. But then, in aperture priority, instead of keeping to a low shutter speed, it keeps increasing shutter speed and ISO, so I just wanted to be sure that the shutter priority is a good work around. I know manual would work but that's not my intended mode.

Thanks for the offer. Still deliberating on the Olympus acquisition. Waiting for CES 2014 to see what announcements they have for mirror less.
