Official Canon 550D User Thread Part IV

If u want cheap. Tarmon 28-70. I think is ard 600+

Thanks for all the suggestions. I don't mind losing the 17-23mm width. Just checked the price for Tamron 17-50mm on the price guide. It is almost half the price of the both canon lens. But how does this lens fair as compared to the 17-55mm?

It's one of best bang for buck lens. The 17-55mm is definitely the faster, quieter and sharper lens but the Tamron is not far off. Review: http://www.photozone.de/canon-eos/2...ii-ld-aspherical-if-canon-test-report--review

My bad. Haha. I'm also learning. I see saDdyJ86's comment I also blur liao hehe.

Just to clear things up, aperture values changes when you zoom with kit lens 18-55mm. Zoom lens like the popular 17-55mm with constant aperture f/2.8 can fix aperture value at 2.8. Correct me if I'm wrong again. Getting late :p

No worries bro..
I'm not any better than you either.. haha..
We're all here just to learn and share yar :D

Oh dear. Have you read the manual? I think you did not right? Haha. Anyway to answer your last question, you can't change the aperture as the kit lens has variable aperture. You can only fix the aperture value if you are using a prime lens. No offence but you really need to read the manual. If you hate reading, why not watch these YouTube videos from this YouTuber Derek to learn the basics before you pull your hair again? :p

Hmm.. Just to make things clearer, there are zoom lenses with fixed aperture as well..
guess you knew it.. but the way you phrase it might mislead saDdyJ86..
:D

Tamron 17-50 is a good affordable alternative to the 17-55, except for the issue above mentioned by maldito. the 17-55 adds USM and IS, but it may not be worth the extra cost if you are on a tight budget. i have one complaint about the 17-55, though. the zoom ring is not very smooth when zooming during video.

i would choose Tamron 17-50 over this for the constant aperture. easier to shoot manual at f/2.8. it is hard to shoot manual with variable aperture lens. for the extra 20mm of range, can consider the very affordable EF-S 55-250 as a future purchase.

I believe the bundled canon software is able to stitch panorama shots. I think you can set your camera to shutter burst and sweep your camera with the shutter held down across the scene. Stitch the shots afterward using the canon software, or other stitching software available.

Any lens can shoot panorama, though you should probably use your wider end (18mm) to reduce vertical shake.

I haven't tried it myself, pls correct if I have had any misconceptions :)

no need to shoot in burst mode, just need to make sure there is enough overlapping between your shots so that the software can stitch the photos up accurately.

makes sure your exposure is spot on though.
