Official 5D User Thread - Part 2

I finally moved in to FF and bought this 5D classic body from fellow clubsnappers here. Good deal for a starter like me as budget quite tight. Sent the body for full check up at CSC harbor front and gave clean bill of health even though my SC has hit 145,214 clicks! The technician there said it can go for another 50k. Changed the terminal cover, cleaned the sensor, upgraded firmware and full functionality checked cost me only $30 before GST. Good deal I guessed.

Congrats on your move to FF with the 5D. It was the same for me but in another scenario though as I switched from film to digital. The 5D is indeed
a true legend in her own right. You will thoroughly enjoy her IQ ableit the early technology but you won't regret it. Even though have upgraded to the
5DMKIII ,the 5D has now become my 2nd body. A recent shot with this classic 5D lady :)

Congratulations on getting the old lady! She has lot's of class!

I used to own one until last year when I decided to upgrade to the 5D3. The IQ of the 5D classic is quite high... I'm sure you'll appreciate the results you get from your camera.

So nice to see this thread again. For awhile I thought it had gone the way of the dinosaur. A couple of other threads that I haven't seen in quite some time are the 7D and 5D2 threads.

Thanks Zeisser...hope to perfect my skills even better with this FF body. I just acquired code UA 24-105mm from here too, sold all my EF-S lenses and 7D body to get this set up. Great to hear the existence of this thread and you guys have started earlier than me and must learn all the tips and tricks.

Thanks bro! My job in tourism line requires a lot of landscape, outdoor and sceneries of tourism spots so I guessed FF will do wonders.

oh wow, what you working as?

I'm with tourism Malaysia in marketing division...Singapore office for the last 4 years.. Photography is purely my hobby since 1989..gone through film days and dark room with FM2 up to F4. When finally DSLR kicked in, I just waited and see the progress before I changed camp to Canon with my 60D when it was first introduced. After that was 7D and now finally 5Dc.

I used to own the 7D concurrently with the 5D classic. Even though the 7D had more bells and whistles, it was relegated to my backup camera. I used the 5Dc far more than the 7D. I just liked the look and feel of the 5Dc IQ.

Straightaway I can feel the difference after get my hands on 5Dc and didn't think twice when I posted my 7D for sale..

Speaking of the 7D...I use both a 5Dc and a 7D...lets me get away with very few lenses to cover a lot of FOV options...My normal work kit is limited to a 20 voigtleander, an EF 40 pancake, an EF 135 F2 and a 2X converter...Now you just think about all the FOV possibilities by swapping bodies back and forth..;)

My 5D has been sitting in the dry cabinet for quite some time already, maybe should one day bring it out for a shoot.

Yes bring out your camera for some exercise lest your equipment seize up from lack of use. I must do the same!

But now there's so much lesser time for photography. Still, I need to balance it again.

Let's get out this week-end and take some photos with our 5D + Sigma 12-24's. You in Singapore and me in Toronto. Then we'll post our photos in this thread on Sunday night.

Its time to get out with our cameras! How about it Snoweagle? :)

Hi guys. After using a 60D for quite some time I went ahead and bought a used 5Dc a few weeks ago. FF is just an entirely new world. I find myself using the 5D more than the 60D now. Instead of it supposed to be a back-up cam, it feels as if the 5Dc has become my main cam.

I currently almost always use my 5Dc with my 50mm f/1.8 lens. Is the 85mm a better portrait lens?

Congrats on the 5Dc! Yes, there are several people who use the 85mm lens for portraiture. Whether it's better or not is really a matter of opinion and style. Many who adopt the 85mm lens, use it for head and shoulder shots.
