Official 5D User Thread - Part 2

This thread has a nice warm vibe. Is it common for 5Dc users?

I heard the 85mm is good for head and shoulder shots. Hopefully I can get one soon.

LOL. Thanks for the complement. We do enjoy each other's company. We're just a bunch of cameras users trying to help one another.

Hope you can get an 85mm soon. Have you considered the Buy and Sell forum to get a 2nd hand model? If so, you can save several dollars.

I actually just got my 50mm with the 5Dc so I am trying to play with that first. Hopefully by next month for my birthday I shall get the 85mm as a self-gift!

Sounds like a good plan. Another consideration for your thoughts regarding the 85mm is the Sigma f/1.4 version. Many good reports and reviews of this lens. Perhaps worth considering.

Hi guys. After using a 60D for quite some time I went ahead and bought a used 5Dc a few weeks ago. FF is just an entirely new world. I find myself using the 5D more than the 60D now. Instead of it supposed to be a back-up cam, it feels as if the 5Dc has become my main cam.

I currently almost always use my 5Dc with my 50mm f/1.8 lens. Is the 85mm a better portrait lens?

Congrats on your newly acquired 5Dc! Welcome aboard.

Yes I heard the same. I have a good friend using his 85mm Sigma on his 7D and I already asked him if I could borrow it this weekend

talking about compatible lens for 5Dc..any other recommended lenses apart from Canon L lens? i already covered the 24-105 range at the moment. Need your valuable advise here.

my shooting style more towards street, landscape, people.. heard we can mod the EF-S 10-22mm, would it be a good idea?

thanks.

I really don't see any issues with your 24-105 for the things you shoot... Probably if you want to shoot portraits, I would suggest a (cheap) larger aperture lens like 85 f1.8

There are a few... Firstly, I wouldn't mod the 10-22... rather I would buy Canon's cheapest L lens, the 17-40. It is a great lens on the 5Dc.

Secondly, the new Sigma 35 f/1.4 is one of the newest lenses on the market and has already developed and very strong reputation. I personally have never tried it but it is one of the lenses that I am considering for a future purchase.

Thirdly, the Canon 100mm (non-L) which is readily available on the Buy and Sell forum is a great companion to the 5Dc. The bokeh this little gem can produce is nothing less than outstanding! It is a great lens for street, macro, and portrait.

Fourthly, the 40mm pancake lens is a small little lens that looks like a toy but can produce IQ better than many of its brothers and sisters. This lens may be one of Canon's cheapest but it is a true joy to use.

Lastly, the 135mm is another great prime that produces great IQ and bokeh. It is an L lens but it is one of Canon's cheapest. Several copies can be found on the Buy and Sell for reasonable prices.

Many thanks for your advice. Yeap, I heard about the Sigma which has been the talk of the town. I will sell my 10-22mm and get the 17-40 first and going for street photography shoot in JB this coming Sunday and will share some pics soon. A friend of mine in KL just bought his 5Dc at RM2900, still command a good resale price over there I guess.

Look forward to your photos. Have fun taking them.

Let's get out this week-end and take some photos with our 5D + Sigma 12-24's. You in Singapore and me in Toronto. Then we'll post our photos in this thread on Sunday night.

Its time to get out with our cameras! How about it Snoweagle? :)

This weekend I'm kinda packed in my schedule so won't be taking any photos, but I will next weekend as I'll be away to Malacca.

Just go out and shoot, shoot, shoot with your 5Ds. This way, u'll learn more in terms of photography and also learn how to make full use of your gears too.

Lucky you! I am looking forward to seeing your photos!

I've been wanting to go to Malacca for quite some time. I think this summer I will have to go. Is it easy to go by bus? What is the price of a ticket? Is it safe?

Please show me photos of the "must-see" places so that I can know what to expect. Enjoy yourself!

Yes it's easy to go by coach and I bought the ticket (one way) for S$22 (CA$18) and it's my 2nd time going and do not worry, there're many tourists there carrying DSLRs as well.

Got a couple of pics which I can show you taken on the last trip and Malacca's famous for these landmarks, taken by my LX3.

Jonker Walk (Jonker Street)

Christ Church

Famosa Fort

These places are located near to each other so it's easy to locate them. :)

That's great Snoweagle. No rush on the photos although I appreciate you trying. Have a good time on your trip next week-end.

Just got them up. ;)

Thanks. Malacca looks awesome. I definitely have to spend a least a day there this summer. Many thanks for the photos Snoweagle.
