Official 5D User Thread - Part 2

Beautiful shots..(both of them)...At the moment, I am not using Zeiss (except on my old Blad)...But I do use Nikon/Voigtleander/Olympus/Rokinon, on my venerable 5D.(and sometimes an EOS lens to make it happy) He He.

Planning to get a travel lens for my 5D, still deciding on which one... ;p

Are you leaning towards anything in particular? Perhaps the new 24-70 f/2.8 II? or the 24-105 f/4 IS?

Where will you be traveling? I can still remember the shots you took in Hong Kong with your Sigma 12-24. After seeing your photos, as well as others, I was struck with the BBB virus. I finally picked up a copy in Singapore last summer. I've never regretted it. It's a great lens.

Let us know what you are considering as far as a travel lens. Hopefully we can be of some help.

Thanks bro! I'm not leaning towards the 24-70 f/2.8 II as it's too expensive so the 24-105 f/4 IS would be better as it has more range, IS and cheaper too (don't know why would Canon want to launch the upcoming 24-70 f/4 IS).

In fact my ideal travel lens would be Tamron's 28-300 f/3.5-6.3 VC as it's got everything which is range, smaller, lighter and it's VC is outstanding as I had tested it twice at 300mm, f/6.3, ISO 800, 1/13 speed (dimmer indoor lighting without flash) and it's still sharp.

Well I can attest to the 24-105 as I owned it for about 2 years now. It's sharp and the colours are great. In fact I bought it 2nd hand from a very nice lady (fellow ClubSnapper) on B&S. We went out afterwards and did a cityscape shoot at Marina Bay with some of her friends. We all had a really good time.

I am not familiar with the Tamron 28-300. The range sounds great for travelling! The wide side may not be enough but then you've got the Sigma 12-24.... so you're covered. Let us know which one you decide on buying. I'd love to see some photo samples from the Tamron if that is the one you pick.

BTW: Where might you be travelling?

Gd on the 24-105! I've tried my friend's copy some time back and yes, it's great and colours are vivd as it's an L after all. So now, i'm just juggling between the 24-105 and 28-300.

Oh apologies for missing that part, I usually travel at least twice per year so my next destination will be Melbourne some time around August next year, but I also may visit Cameron Highlands in Malaysia earlier too.

Seems that the Canon and Tamron 28-300 are on par optically but the Tamron is substantially less expensive. The optical equivalence is somewhat surprising since the Canon is "L" lens. It's a no brainier to get the Tamron. The black lens will also attract less attention.

I known some good friends who have come from or lived in Melbourne. I've never visited the city but I've heard some very good things about it. If you travel in August be sure to dress warmly for their winter season. I'm sure you'll find a lot of good photographic opportunities.

I like the EF28-135 IS...not to expensive and great for all round shooting... I suppose the 24 -105 is the thing now days, but for quite a bit more money...Anyway, I see you already have a couple of "L" lense to make you happy..

Both are black lenses except the L has a red ring which makes it more outstanding...but still considering between the two.

Yes will note about the weather in Melbourne and I've been there once before but that's way back in 1995 during the winter season too.

the 28-300L is a uber white lens mug.

Amazing isn't it? It just goes to show that good cameras don't die quickly. Long live the 5D Classic!

Some more it's Canon first consumer-class full-frame DSLR and its image quality is truly outstanding! Imagine it costs $6999 as RRP back in 2005!

I am holding on to mine for now, but am sorely tempted to switch to the 6D.

Still love my 5D after all these years, even 6D doesn't tempt me.

Good camera is good camera :)

Now with the announcement of the 24-70 f4, it seems that the 24-105 IS can be had for never seen before price. I may want to add this old zoom....old is gold here in this thread, right? :p

I'd still go for 24-105 for range. Perhaps the new 24-70 f/4 IS has better IS and optics. But since it's going to be a travel lens, range is more of a priority.
