Nikon D7100 Hands-On Preview

I am just guessing, but I have been noticing a lot of photographers using CH as their default mode, and ending up with 5 frames of (what is most likely) near identical photos each time they wish to capture something. (I won't comment on such style of shooting)

If the seller is truly things this way, 3000 / 5 = 600 "real" shots per month, or 600 incidences worth taking photos of. That doesn't sound too bad.

Also, if the camera is confined to studio work, it should not be too bad either.

I note that my 1 year old Nikon D7000 has not crossed the 10k barrier yet, so the seller has used his / her D7000 more than 7 times over my usage.

My D7000 is 1 year old, heavily used for event photography has hit a shutter count of 50k already :O and I never motor drive. Exterior wise still looks good though haha
But I agree, by shutter count and age of camera, its a very good way of determining its usage.
Now... Since the D7100 is out, its time to upgrade to FF lo!

What's stopping you from getting FF before D7100 was out?

Was probably looking for a pro bodied DX to upgrade to, then D600 was a huge dissapointment to me, and changing to the D7100 would not be an upgrade, thus the decision :) and anyways within the year, I have built up a collection of FF nikkor gold rings, might as well make use thier full potential.

D800?

50K is... little.

I recently had the chance to borrow a D700 with roughly 70-80k SC. Everything was loose, command dial, multi pad etc. even if it is offer to me at cheap price I won't buy that. And certainly a 70k 2-yr old D700 would fall in the same category.

That's where the dilemma comes in as I'm doing events! ><
Must shoot raw and the file size might just overwhelm me Lols! Okay getting off topic already.
Looking by the rate technology is advancing and from what I've seen with the D7100, probably in the next decade the new D3900 would have specs similar to that of D4

there are rumours that the D400 is coming.... maybe can wait for it... suppose to replace D300s...so the specs should be WOW... ;)

this D400 rumors has been out for long, doubt Nikon will release 1 so soon since it just release D7100

I have the same issue as you. As i need dual camera setup, im dropping my D700 for a D4 alongside wi my current D800. I'm going for D4 soon.

Personal advice, D800 for event is suicidal for your storage device.

Hard to say la. Really depends on the user and many other factors. My camera at 40k shutter count still looks and feel brand new and mint.

The specs of this camera looks great & it's very tempting for my next upgrade.
i see that this camera doesn't have the AF-L button, it may also mean no AE-L..
i guess D7000 has this function.

24MP in DX format .... pixel density surpasses that of the D800/E ..... think about all the blurred shots you will be getting ....... :sweatsm:

I bet you must be still using the super no blurred 6MP D70!

I hope D7100 do not have oil spill or dust problem....(I already have a thinking to switch to Canon/Pentax/Sony)
