I tested the F200EXR at MS Color this afternoon. All I can say is . The colors look very close to the S5 Pro. Its dynamic range is superb (as good as S5 Pro's). In fact, this camera performs like a mini-S5 Pro (Mini-Me in Austin Powers). Focusing is fast. The face-recognition feature works well (not always though). At ISO 12,800, the noise is quite prominent. However at ISO 800 and below, images comes out very clean. Fujifilm had decided to use back the rotary dial selector here, unlike the F100fd (I don't like its button selectors).

My only nickpick is the histogram feature is absent in this model. The F100fd can display histogram.

All it all, S$479 is a steal for such an advanced camera. Time to Buy, Buy, Buy.

yah.. damn cheap. $479.. last time i bought $480 for F100fd... geez.. i am not going to sell this away, unless the next F400EXR is out... :bsmilie:

Er................ F31 or F200? Confused leh!!??

I think F31 is a classic though i was unable to get 1. If F200 is better, see if F31's price would drop to $200 and below.... I may consider getting 1.

F31 is a classic, but look 35mm lens.. 3x optical zoom, no IS, no dynamic range, 6MP even at bright light..

These are BIG turn offs for me!

one comment i would like to add..

F200EXR feels really solid in the hands, even more solid than F100Fd... somehow it improved the handling.. Feels heavier than F100Fd, but the features are superb.. no more purple banding that plagued F100fd, even after firmware update...

F200EXR, its the BEST compact for now, looking at the features and image quality.. It will be the next best seller...

The 5X optical zoom at smallest aperture @ F5.1 is highly usable... look at some of the pixs which i have taken at maximum zoom... really good... The IS has really improved alot since F100fd

Heng ah..... I did not buy the F100fd as I find the button layout cumbersome. Bought the Ricoh GRD instead. Now, it is back to Fujifilm Finepix. ;)

yup.. that's why i was pretty pissed off.. The purple fringing persisted in F100fd even with the new firmware, it only minimised it. I sold off my F100fd within 3 months after getting it... :sweatsm:

With F200EXR now out, F10/F11/F20/F30/F31fd/F40fd/F47fd/F50fd/F60fd/F100fd, all please stand aside

Without the diaphragm for aperture control, wouldn't that affect the dof?

At the wide end with the biggest f-stop, 3.3? issn't that kinda shallow for landscapes?

I would love to get the F200EXR, but, this is my primary concern, thus i hope someone can advice me.

Cheers!

Common lah.. Compact, what DOF u talking about?

DOF is almost non-existent in compact... unless you referring to DSLR, and LX3... but hey.. LX3 only got 2.4x optical zoom...

I dun need the 24mm wide lens.. the ISO of LX3 is inferior compared to F200EXR...

While the high ISO of LX3 could be more inferior than F200EXR, it is compensated by a faster f/2.0 Leica lens vs f/3.3 for F200EXR, so you don't have to shoot at high ISO.

yup, but the 2.4X optical zoom is putting me off.. for me, the camera is a walk around cam.. i hate to be limited by the zoom.. 5X is about right..

really love the colours and dynamic range of F200EXR.. the output is like S5Pro.. nice colours...

I don't quite get what you meant. Kind to elaborate on the DOF part?

Is the image quality of the F200EXR noticeably better than F100fd, especially for low light? Ive read comments going either way...but from the comparison shots I've seen so far there isn't all that much difference. Not enough to justify upgrading based on image quality alone IMHO.
And I wonder if the price of the F100fd is gonna drop since the F200EXR has more features and yet is almost the same price...

he is referring to the bokaeh effect, where u can the foreground to be focused, while the background to be blurred...

that is easily achievable in DSLR coz of big sensor... but in compacts, its virtually non-existent, unless u shooting in macro or maximum zoom focusing on an object in the foreground...

the ONLY exception for compacts is LX3... but then its effect is limited also lah... i rather use my D90 for the DOF...

hmmmm i skip LX3, i 'siam' G10,

then u gotta get F200EXR..

G10 is good, but abit too big for me.. LX3, i am turned off by the limited zoom..

my logical choice is F200EXR... cheap cheap niah.. $479 from mscolor...

LX3 is some $200+ more, G10 is some $400 more...

dunno why u r talking bout the bokeh when i'm asking bout the dof for landscapes. i'm thinking of bringing a compact (in this case, the f200exr) for leisure tour instead of lugging my dslr, and since landscapes are what i preferred, the dof is of an importance to me, especially hyperfocal.

anyway, my bad for missing the earlier post by drake336, which stated no dof control.

i think all is not lost, from what i have just read, is that, due to smaller sensor on the f200exr as compared to ff/135mm, the f-number is definitely more than the specified 3.3?

guess i haf to wait for photos of landscapes from f200exr to really see how much dof it can deliver.

cheers!
