My 1st Pentax

my first Pentax is K-5, still using it.. came from Canon, never look back.

using K-01 with manual lenses, K-5 for auto lenses... GR for convenience.

waiting for K-3 prices to drop in BnS... when can I buy one for $600?

Pentax has a smaller market share, lesser buyer and that translate to higher depreciation.
from canon to pentax, seems the right choice huh, on cost especially;). Soon K3 will also go for 500 but you will a competitor.;):bsmilie:

I still have my K5, a great camera, good enuf for me.

The K-X white is the killer at that time!!!

Yeah.. seems like the largest boom in users was in the K5/Kx period.
Sure hope to see another Pentax camera that breaks down the branding barrier like those 2 cameras, soon. :)

I think so too.. I think the KX was the start of everything. Sold quite well.. I know two friends who bought it just because of the colours! They saw it in Jap and some overseas Magazines which become a hit with them. But in the end, that's was their last DSLR also :X

My first camera was a pentax P30 programme A and manual focus sometime in 1985.. Like JK, could not affort a better camera and funds was low and that was all I could afford...Back then reigning brand was Nikon FM and shortly after FM2 came out and I was just playing with it, drooling over the camera. Nikon has got the F3 and later f4 and F801, those who own that knew that was reigning then. Canon was equally popular but between them, I think Nikon has the edge. Minolta has several bodies too and later X700 was popular if I could remember.

I gotten SFX with kit lens autofocus pentax sometime 1990 and later got another MZ 7 which I possess it now.So P30 and MZ7 are with me.

My first digital was K10d follow by KX and K5. I have never tot of changing brand even when Hoya was trying to dispose off the camera division. Maybe I have too many lenses to sell and lose when migrating to canon or Nikon.CAnon and Nikon are still the leading Dslr in the market place.

Back in 1986, I only learnt of TTL ie thru the lens focusing. a few variables in relation to light on how images are captured. Aperture of lens, shutter speed, iso, film speed interact with on another in relation of exposure and resulting the final image. ofcourse, I learnt about composition and bokeh too.

So for pentax, My need can easily be met, in M mode, most of my macro are in that mode. For other features, I need to call the younger pentaxian to find out the how and what and why??:bsmilie:

This is my story..

My 1st DSLR is the *istDL bought in 2006 i still have it & it works fine, followed by K30. However MY 1st SLR film Camera was not a Pentax but it was a PK mount "COSINA CT-1 Super" bought in 1990 when I was 17. It came as a double Lens packag body + 35-70mm & 70-210mm. As a Student this was a super Budget Deal for only $468 @ Cathay Marina. Had loads of fun shooting & I even started shooting Wedding events to earn some pocket money. Nikon & Canon was a popular brand but they were not the Dominent Mount. Back in the old day PK was the Dominent Camera mount because many Brands like Ricoh, Cosina, Zenit, Chinon & Vivitar adopted the Pentax mount. Thanks to Pentax, they created a massive advantage of using multiple PK mount Lenses of different brands which exists till Today & works on modern Pentax DSLR.

I had been using film point and shoot camera ( Canon ) with some semi-auto functions and zoom function for some time. But often wondered how professional photographers were able to get nice subject isolation when i could not achieve it with the point and shoot camera. So one day i decided to ask my brother for his expert advise. He point me to SLR camera and this was how i was introduced into the world of DSLR and bokeh.

I had contemplated buying the Canon 450 or a slightly higher end model, then through my brother, i learned about Pentax, and its unique features of built-in shake reduction system and its other unique features, such as the green button, and more importantly the SMC lenses.

That was in 2008 / 2009 and I bought the K200D ( a very solid camera, built like a tank ). I used it for slightly over 1 year and then sold it to fund for the K-x when the latter camera came out into the market.

Below are 2 pictures taken from the K200D in the morning prior to the camera being sold.

K-5 was next when it came out in Oct 2010. I put it to good use for almost 5 years , and had no regrets with this camera, because of the quality of the pictures it produces.

i wonder if it is the curse of Pentax..k5 was such a good camera that owners of k5 do not have any reasons to upgrade and if they do want to upgrade..some of them would rather move to a FF camera

Wow.. memories thread!!!
Short history for me..

After long research and comparing between different brands, the last choice was to decide the K7 or KX, in which K7 was choosen and become my first Camera in Jan 2010. Not too sure do I still have a photo of my K7, really need to go run through my back up harddisk.

Some shots with the K7..

Those shots if u care to enlarge it, is worth more than your camera

Yeah! Sounds like same experience as you those days shooting was more challenging but Fun & anticipating the image turnout. I did weddings shoots as it was easy to come by because those days people were more thrifty & hiring a student was more cheaper. I remember charging $35 per roll of film minimum 5 rolls. About the flash I got myself a brand new Sunpak G4500 flash in 1991, @ Foto Guide for only $210. This flash with the handle grip Make it look more professional. Old school photography. Ha Ha Ha
