Israel tightens airspace security after jet’s disappearance

Airliners are now required to identify themselves much earlier when approaching Israel’s airspace.

They are not taking any chances.

The increased security came as El Al’s former global security chief told The Times of Israel he believes that the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines flight points directly to Iran.

The two Iranians don't seem so innocent after all.

When you look at the arcs, actually they represent where the plane was at one point in time.
The arcs do not represent the flight path. It represents the part of circle of possible positions at that angle from the satellite. The other half of circle discounted due to speed and fuel limitations.
The various points in the arcs represent a position through which the plane flew, at a particular time.

Is this correct?
The plane could be flying in a straight line in any direction after it passed through that point.

The US NTSB is not a satellite carrier / operator nor an intelligence company. Check their website for further details, scope and positioning within the US administration. The NTSB (and AMSA) got the data that have been collected from the various other sources involved. One of these sources is INMARSAT as owner and operator of the satellite based communication system which received the 'ping' signals form the aircraft.
